I spent some time cleaning the cosmolene, greasing, and oiling it last night, and afterwards I did the "slide" test with the receiver, but it catches about 3/4 of the way back. I'm assuming this only because it is a new rifle, and needs to be broken in.

I used M-Pro 7 oil, and synthetic grease, but the grease doesn't really coat the parts well. What grease would you recommend?

What make?
Yep, any grease, but not by the bucket. Too much grease will attract dust and dirt, assorted. BLO on the stock. Or refinish with pure tung oil.
Manuals are here. Add the W's and note the need for the UN & PW. .biggerhammer.net/manuals/

If you want to get technical you should use Lubriplate 130-A which can be purchased from Brownells.
I use Lucas Red and Tacky which also lubricates my Hornady LnL AP progressive press.
If you will be shooting it in sub zero weather then I would switch to something thinner.

Dumb question here. :) Got new hand guards on mine, not to the shooting stage yet, but the assembly manual I'm using shows the rear hand guard, relieved by the receiver front, where the bolt operating lug sits, unlike mine. Possible interference here when shooting ?

Not a dumb question at all. If it's touching the front of the receiver, you can shorten the rear of the guard by around 1/64". Additionally, and if you are up to it, you can also relieve the bottom edges on each side of the handguard if they touch the tops of the stock rails forward of the receiver. You don't have to remove much, just enough to slide a piece of paper between the two without catching.
