A very innovative idea:
It's a .45/70 flat nose mould with removable base plugs that can give you the choice of weights: 290 HB, 350, 405 or 500 grains.
This mould is designed for powder coating.
The steel d/c mould cost me $211 landed.
They make this system for 9 mm, .38/.357 and .44.
If it came out in .30 cal., I'd be happy as a porker in the poop.

I bought a Russian 12 ga. slug mold last year that does something similar. It came with 4 base plugs that allowed you to vary the weight from between 525 and 400 grains by increasing the size of the base cavity.

So, Slug was kind enough to lend me his new mould and I took it for a dance. I shot this group with a Siamese mauser in 45-70 at 100 yds. 30 grs of IMR 4198, 500 gr slug sized to .460"

I'm sure it will do better than 2 1/2" with more testing.

Nice rigging!

How are the base plugs held in the varied base filler pins, just screw threads?

I was on a .22 caliber casting kick for a while and bought one of NOE's 224107 repro's, and saw nothing that I didn't like in the build quality!

That group show’s promise! How does she kick? Thx for sharing

I was at the range last Friday doing more testing with Slug's new mold. Two different rifles: Ruger #1 (45-70) and Browning 1885 (45-70)....and two different bullets: Campro (500 grs) and Slug's (500 Grs)
Same charge: 30 Grs IMR 4198
Here's the target:

The Ruger seems to like the Campro's and the 1885, Slug's.................at least for this comparison!!!!! More fun coming!! The 1885 is the more accurate rifle............at least for this test!!
