Well I picked up my new Norinco JW-21 Lever action to day at Bulls Eye .

This was a special order as it was a non stock item .

The rifle is stamped Norinco JW-21 Lever B ( 2014 ) and all the box labels state the same but it looks like Norinco some time in 2014 or before decided to make some changes to the JW 21 B model .

The rifle I received is stamped Norinco JW-21 Lever B but it is not a 24 inch barrel as I had put in my previous posts , mine is a 20 inch barrel , smooth uncheckered stock is a satin brown finish .

This is NOT TO SAY it is NOT a nice rifle , it is a VERY Nice Lever action 22 . The outside fit and finish is Very good , nice buck horn rear sights , adjustable for height and buck horn height and alinement , a nice ramped and hooded front sight . The bluing was dark and even over the whole rifle , the whole rifle appear to be of steel construction , as normal some of the interior parts show some machining / tool marks but they do not imped the operation of function of the rifle , the mag tube is not brass but is a bright metal , maybe steel or another metal , plunger is plastic . The receiver have a weaver 22 groves in the top for easy scope mounting . This rifle comes with a 5 year warranty , as seen on Bell Outdoor web site the Distributor of this rifle .

The action is smooth , no grittiness when cycling , it is a firm lock up , half #### safety , hold 15 rounds of LR , take down is very easy , remove the one screw and tilt out the rear stock and then slide the bolt assembly out for cleaning .

It is over a very nice , quick handling 22 lever action .

Bullys Eye has 4 left in stock just to let you know .

Well here is some pics ........

Very nice rifle, looks to be about the same price as a Henry...but with milled steel instead of pot metal. How smooth is the action?( Norinco's sometimes take a bit of working to smooth out)

Up Date

First off you must clean the inside of the receiver Very well , spaying some cleaner and a quick wipe is not enough , Remove the bolt assembly as per instructions and clean well !

Rifle function test after a good cleaning , 100% , no FTF , No FTE . I have NOT shot the rifle yet but the rifling looks very nice and strong .

Second ... Disclaimer !! This is for information ONLY , always follow the Fire arms manufacturer's statement of type of ammo to be used in this rifle !!

Conducting function test , 22 lr worked 100% as stated . Having read this is a copy of other lever actions , I wondered if it would cycle " short's " .
The only 22 shorts I have are Whiz Bangs , so I first checked how many rounds I cough stuff in her , well , 22 shorts was the total .
I put 5 rds for a simple test , and all ran through at 100% .

Remember this Rifle is Marked " 22 Long Rifle " so always follow the manufacturers rules and regulations on the use of their Fire Arms !!!

Thanks for the writeup but wouldn't it be safer/smarter-to-be-posting-on-the-internet to use snap caps? 'Cause that looks a smidge irresponsible, but that's just me.

Your Right my friend , as I do not own any snap caps it was not possible , that said , I was just answering some previous question I had received , doing it in a blanket post
Thank you for your advice and I will heed it in the future !!

Those rifles look to have good bones. In terms of critique from my overly critical eye:

1) The buttstock was not well fitted at the factory. The wood should be slightly proud of the metal, not the other way around, so it's smooth in-hand.
2) The receiver flats and barrel look to have been finished on a 180 grit sanding machine, and POSSIBLY a very quick run over a buffing wheel, but not enough to remove any sanding lines.

I think that these would be a good candidate for someone who does their own work to re-stock the gun in nicer black walnut (the OEM stock looks like stained beech) and to finish the metal to about 400grit and re-blue it. If I were doing so, I'd totally remove the dot-matrix markings and re-stamp the serial number and caliber with proper metal stamps.

Thanks for posting the good photos.

Good Morning Claven2

Your views are as important as anyone else and thank you for your post .

My point of view is first based on the Fact that this a Norinco made in 2014 , the is no question that the fit and finish of Norinco's in general do not comparer to higher end and higher priced made guns .
That said , he who is looking for a flawless 22 lever action made entirely out of steel with a milled steel receiver only has to look for a beautiful Winchester 9422 from 2005 or before on the EE at around $1000.00
or get a Marlin golden 39a another top end 22 lever with out a question on it's has an excellent fit and finish but as with all things the price point will be higher .

I am very happy with my new lever action , it has a very smooth action , 100 % function tested ( no Range time yet ) , I assume that it will be accurate as all my other ones are very good , I have 5 Nornico's of all different types and this one is one of the best , my SN 522 is a step up but it is in a different league .

So for me $359.00 plus tax , free shipping and 5 year grantee / 15 round , short , quick handling 22lr Lever action , I am happy .

Oh just an up date the bright feed tube is steel as well as it passed the magnet test .

They say the US dollar has an impact and as more new stock arrives more price increases ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

<But then again the Henry is $450 at cabelas now >, other places listed at $459.99 and most are out of stock .
Then some places charge shipping as well .......

The Henry is a very nice rifle !!

A shooting buddy bought a Norinco JW21 for his son after the lad got to shoot my Henry a bunch. The Norc was rough cycling and had an almost crazy heavy trigger with a gritty creep before the break. In short pretty much a disaster.

And that's the trouble with Norincos. One is a lovely gun and the next has more warts than a toad.

I'm still not against buying a Norinco but I treat it as a "gun kit which arrives loosely assembled for ease of packaging". A product which I expect to strip fully and put back together with lots of cleaning, smoothing and de-burring as I go. And perhaps with a new part made in my shop if something is undersize or such that the smoothing will make it undersize.

Unless you are buying a rifle that has excellent reviews or you can hold in your hands it's always a pig in a poke.So far I've done well with my Norinco's, ( 5) but only after buying models with good reviews.I'm also aware some folks have not had as good experiances as I have with mine.
