Well, I think this one is just about ready to see the light of day. It is an AAC Handi Rifle, chambered in 300 Blackout with a 16" barrel. Just about 29 3/4" OAL, and just about 20" OAL while the barrel has been removed. Leupold PRW Medium height 30mm rings, Leupold VXR 1.25-4x20 Firedot scope with some Leupold scope caps added on. The sling I braided myself out of green and black paracord. I have found that this braid works quite well for slings, as it about 1 1/4" wide, and thus quite comfortable for load bearing, it also has a quite nice appearance with two colours used, and looking good is the name of the game.

I plan to make this my new close-range hunting rifle, I've almost got my first batch of 300BLK brass ready, I just need to do a final trim to get them to the proper length and then I can start load development. I'm very tempted to get a flash hider such as the ATRS Eliminator, to compliment the style. Overall, I think this rifle could work out quite well. I wanted something to do with all the .223 brass I have lying around, but there's a .24 minimum caliber restriction on big game hunting in Alberta. 300 BLK seems like it might be a good adaptation, as I have no ambitions to try any sort of long range hunting at the moment. I'll just need to do some load development to see if I could get a hunting load I'm comfortable with.

I did have to file off some material from the hammer spur to get it to fit under the scope, it previously had a bit too much material for proper function. I just need to repaint the section that I filed, I really dislike having bare metal exposed. That in turn makes me tempted to Arma-Coat the entire rifle, perhaps Battleship Grey.

One thing I'm feeling does not quite fit is the way the picatinny rail has a gap between it and the barrel due to the barrel profile. It's about 1/8" and I'm not really liking it. I'm also tempted to see if I could remove the excess forward portion of the rail, which would reduce by half the amount of rail that has a gap, and then possibly add in some sort of filler/bedding material. Does anyone have any recommendations for filling in this gap?

I am thinking of getting one of these rifles as well. Would you mind telling me where you bought it? I have an NEA rifle in 300 blackout and I think this would be a nice companion piece.

I found it at the Easter weekend gunshow in Calgary...from the Tier 1 Armoury booth...maybe? It's the only one I've ever physically seen.

But, check with your gunstore of choice, if they carry Remington guns they should be able to bring one in if it can be found. There don't seem to be many Handi Rifles in general going around.

I suspect the slight overhang of the rail won't make that much of a difference for you shooting needs.

Sweet rig, shame we can't have the suppressors that often go with the cartridge.

Thanks for the info.

I had the same problem with a rail I had on a 45-70. All I did was mix up some JB weld and glued and screwd it down to the barrel. The only way it's gonna come off now is with a torch. After some clean up, it looks like a tight factory fit.

Did that include the forward portion of the rail? Could you post a picture of it?

The gap on mine was only on the back side of the rail over the chamber area, it looked as if they mounted the wrong one at the factory. I only filled the back section as forward of that the taper starts. I would send you pics but the gun is on loan now with a friend up north who has a bear problem.

All Handi rifles have the mounts overhanging the chamber swell... that is the only way to ensure that there is sufficient mounting room for most of the scope options out there... the heavy barrel guns have less reduction from chamber swell to barrel O.D and so have less gap showing... I have bobbed some of the OEM rails, when I did not require the full length, but for the most part I use one piece mounts from DNZ or Dura Sight (prefer the Dura Sight)... see below;

DNZ;

Dura Sight;

I'd love to find a few Durasight mounts as well.

I see Cabelas.ca has them but seems to only list the mounts that fit CVA Muzzleloaders.

Well, got around to completing another step in my plan for world domination.

Installed some flush-mounted QD cups. On the butstock I've got it on the side, but there wasn't quite enough space to get one on the side of the foreend. Well, I probably could have hacked one in there, but it would have been too ugly even for me due to the taper. Instead I compromised and drilled out the existing sling mount hole on the bottom. Fun fact, the pillar on the inside of the foreend is almost exactly the size of this QD cup, so it's more or less a perfect replacement.

The drill left quite a bit of material clinging to the edge, and I made the mistake of yanking a piece off and it tore off a little extra as well. Mistake learned, I used a knife to trim the rest around the edge. My closest size drillbit was a little too small, so I finished the hole with a file and then used a C-clamp to press the cup into the hole.

Then I gave the interior the ugliest JB Weld job known to man, but theoretically it should keep the cups from being yanked out. Hopefully it'll at least provide some warning if they start to work loose.

I wanted to switch to QD buttons for a while now, due to the takedown nature of the rifle. This way it's quick and easy to pop them off if I want to separate the gun. Plus, tactical.

Next I am strongly considering cutting off the forward portion of the rail. No real need to have the extra inch dangling out there. Then I think I'll use some JB Weld as filler between the barrel and the rail, and finally paint over everything.

That Durasight mount looks interesting indeed. I'll have to take a look around for one.

it looks like your scope is too far forward for the durasight. i like your rail its practical flexible you could cut it short but i wouldnt in case you change scopes. i bet if you tried to fill the gap it would look like crap.
