Well, I think this one is just about ready to see the light of day. It is an AAC Handi Rifle, chambered in 300 Blackout with a 16" barrel. Just about 29 3/4" OAL, and just about 20" OAL while the barrel has been removed. Leupold PRW Medium height 30mm rings, Leupold VXR 1.25-4x20 Firedot scope with some Leupold scope caps added on. The sling I braided myself out of green and black paracord. I have found that this braid works quite well for slings, as it about 1 1/4" wide, and thus quite comfortable for load bearing, it also has a quite nice appearance with two colours used, and looking good is the name of the game.
I plan to make this my new close-range hunting rifle, I've almost got my first batch of 300BLK brass ready, I just need to do a final trim to get them to the proper length and then I can start load development. I'm very tempted to get a flash hider such as the ATRS Eliminator, to compliment the style. Overall, I think this rifle could work out quite well. I wanted something to do with all the .223 brass I have lying around, but there's a .24 minimum caliber restriction on big game hunting in Alberta. 300 BLK seems like it might be a good adaptation, as I have no ambitions to try any sort of long range hunting at the moment. I'll just need to do some load development to see if I could get a hunting load I'm comfortable with.
I did have to file off some material from the hammer spur to get it to fit under the scope, it previously had a bit too much material for proper function. I just need to repaint the section that I filed, I really dislike having bare metal exposed. That in turn makes me tempted to Arma-Coat the entire rifle, perhaps Battleship Grey.
One thing I'm feeling does not quite fit is the way the picatinny rail has a gap between it and the barrel due to the barrel profile. It's about 1/8" and I'm not really liking it. I'm also tempted to see if I could remove the excess forward portion of the rail, which would reduce by half the amount of rail that has a gap, and then possibly add in some sort of filler/bedding material. Does anyone have any recommendations for filling in this gap?
