I picked one up in .308 win last Sat, my scope mount showed up yesterday so mounted it up and took it to the range right away, been windy everyday here and wanted to get some rounds off before it started to pick up. Had about a 10km wind mostly to my back, maybe 30* cross from left to right, had some 32-35 year old Imperial hunting ammo 150grn and 180grn kicking around that dad use to have so figured may as well burn it up, sure wish I could still buy it for the $12.99 price tag on it LOL.
I started at 25yards and was 7" low and 4" to the left, gave it a dial and put 2 in the centre so off to 100yard, dialed it in there, liked the old 180 ammo more than the 150, managed a very impressive 5 shot group at 100 off an crappy plastic rest and basically a novice at bench shooting, hand guns, upland birds, skeet, and gophers are more my thing but always wanted to do some bench shooting. Anyway wind was picking up steady and by the time I moved to the 200 yard target I couldn't keep still off my rest and group was a sad 3" so didn't even bother wasting my Hornady Match.
Here are pictures of the crappy rest and my best 5 shot group at 100 yards with the old Imperial 180grn, and then as it sits today as my bipod and mono pod showed up this morning, wind is 25Km so not going to waste my ammo today. But can't wait to get back out and try it with good ammo, I'm very happy with how it shot the old stuff, and I'm sure a good experienced shooter could have done much better yet.
