Picked up this beauty over the weekend and can't wait to get her out to the range. I was researching the GP100 vs. S&W 686 for the past few months and as nice as it is, nothing lead me to believe that the 686 was superior enough to justify the 50% premium over the GP. With the money I saved I bought some Wolff springs and enough ammo to keep me smiling for months. :D

FYI most of the pics are without my flash (reflected too much) so my apologies if they're too dark. Range report to follow soon.

Enough talk, here she is! :dancingbanana:

Congrat's on your new purchase. It's a really good looking gun. I don't own any Ruger revolver but everybody's seems to agree to say that thoses are build like a tank. Have fun and be safe!

first of all nothing wrong with your pictures, they are very nice...
hope i could say the same from my pictures one day...:D

Let's hope you did your homework and research before you decided on the
GP100...because this Gun will last a really, really long time...
I got one nearly 20 years ago and it looks, locks up and shoots still like new!
You will love yours as i love mine...
don't get caught in the Ruger vs S&W game, I have guns from both manufacturesrs and they are all great in one way or another.

Gratulations.

BTW are the Hogue grips factory standard now?
the only change I made to my GP100 was I installed Hogue rubber grips and they are way better than the factory "tire"...

I own two.

Ruger began the series with their very strong and reliable Security Six series of revolvers. Always a favourite. Ruger designed their revolvers to take a steady diet of magnums and the GP100 is no different.
For durability, reliability and the ability to fire full house, full power .357 magnum rounds all day, every day, the GP100 is King.

You made a good choice. I have four Ruger revolvers including a Security Six in .357. They are solid firearms and I like the way that Ruger created their own distinct design rather than copying S&W or Colt. Now get shootin!

I owned the same gun for two years, with original rubber grip and rosewood insert. I struggled between this one and SW 686 but finally got the Ruger after some research on the internet. As I hold the gun, I find Ruger fit better in my hand. This year I also bought the 686, hehe.... both are great guns and don't trade them!

Yes, the Hogue grip is now standard. The gun fits like a glove with this grip; much better than the rosewood insert grip IMO. From their website it doesn't look like Ruger offers the rosewood grip version anymore but I still came across them in the stores I visited.

As this is my first wheel gun and I'll be mostly shooting .38 special lead bullets, can anyone recommend what parts to pay special attention to in terms of maintenance and cleaning if I want to keep her humming for the long haul... and yes, I've read the manual. ;) Cheers!

I prefer the rosewood insert grips myself.
I've fed mine everything I could find from .38pec LWC to hot .357 handloads. The GP-100 eat EVERY SINGLE ROUND and will ask you if you want to shoot some more. :)

Great wheelgun. One of those I'd be loath to part with.

However, I do finally have a thigh rig for my GP-100 so It can be used in TAC matches :) (Cause I want to).
