My new Sauer 101

After a few decades of hunting and settling with "good enough" guns I finally decided to splurge a bit and bought a Sauer 101 Classic that was on sale over Christmas. I know about hub bub about the pressed barrel thing but oh my gosh what a nice piece of kit. The bolt is so slick. I took her out to the farm on the weekend with the cheapest Federal 3006 150 grain pills I could get at Cabelas and it was giving me repeatable 3/4 inch groups strait out of the box. Now that I have had a sip of the coolaide I think I might becoming a German rifle fanboy

Two 3/4 inch groups of 3 at a 100 yards, the bottom group looks like 2 shots but its actually a third shot stacked on the lowest impact

That is a sweet rifle!! I was thinking about getting a classic style rifle in .308 I may have to look into one of these. I am big fan of German Firearms especially H&K stuff.

Haven't come across many (any?) bolts with as slick of an action as a Sauer. Great rifle.

Nice rifle and as long as your confidence is high then it is even better.

Thank you gentlemen. The nice thing is that the 101/100 rifles can use non proprietary(inexpensive) Rem 700 mounting bases. In this case I mounted standard Leupold bases and rings(medium) with a Swarovski Z3 4x12x50.

Last year I picked up one in 6.5 CM with the synthetic stock. Put an old Leupold 4x on it. I needed to make and fireform brass at that time which slowed me down.
Same excellent results out of the box as yours, maybe a bit better. No fuss, no issues. Lovely rifles for the money.
Trigger at 2.5 lbs like glass; stable stock, nice longer LOP like a lot of euro rifles, smooth and feels just right.

Very nice looking rifle, enjoy shooting that one. I was on the wavering on buying one in 7mm RM and by the time I decided I was going to go for it, the shop had sold one and only had a fluted barrel model left - and I have never been a fan of fluted barrels.

I am slowly starting to realize that every Germain, or Swiss gun I have owned I have really enjoyed. First and probable best handgun I owned is a West German Sig P220 in 45 acp with the euro heel mag release, circa 1984. Probably one of the most accurate pistols in my safe, 2-3 inch groups at 25 yards all day long. Regret selling my H&K P7.

I couldn't agree more about German, Swiss and even Finnish guns. They seem to be made to a higher standard and once you have one, you seem to want more Kool-Aid all the time.

Ok, the addiction is official... just got a new package in the mail, Sauer 202 in 300 Weatherby mag.

Oh my gosh, as nice a the 101 is, this is an entirely different level of awesome.

I got my hunting buddy to pose with the new iron. I don't think she is too happy with me, a snack should fix that

Got the 202 out for little shooting in the bush today, very nice. Just using the irons as I haven't decided on a scope yet. The balance is really nice just with iron sites. Gosh if my eyes weren't getting kinda old I probably just leave it that way it is. It would make a great wild boar gun. That said, I gotta admit the 300 Weatherby Mag cartridge does have a little spice behind it. I suppose you get used to it after a few rounds. I also decided I prefer it without the muzzle break installed. A little shorter overall, less noisier and recoil is not that bad without it.

Now I just have to get my reloading gear setup for yet another caliber, ugh

Agree, you seldom hear about serious quality control issues.

The LH Model 200 Sauer 6.5x55 takedown that i bought from the old Guncraft shop in Calgary is the nicest and most accurate rifle that I've ever owned.
