looked to be in a fairly good condition but the varnish on the stock was flaking, since I had it apart to clean I restained it and varnished it. looks 10X better. Is there a deflector I can get to keep the shells from hhitting the scope?

I have a Square-B scope mount that holds the Leupold 4.5-14x50 scope on there, but the mount keeps loosening off and sliding forward. Any ideas how I can fix this, I was thinking of drilling and tapping a few small holes onto the rail so I can screw it together.

Here is a picture of how much it moved after just a few shots

Don't drill and tap it. This forum is milsurp and we like to no drill and tap.
Basically the only non bubba way to scope it is to get a sniper version and repro mount. All others will have issues as you describe.

A thing i may suggest is to drill and tap the scope mount, not the rifle, then use maybe 1 or 2 set screws on each side to secure the mount. All that said, a closer look of the mount would help to find a good spot to put set screws. Like CanadianAR said, we dont like drilling holes in milsurp rifles.

The flat part where you see B square, there is 2 screws that clamp the mount together, it's the only way it stays on. To the very right you can see two roll pins that may be the pieces required to keep it in place, I don't like roll pins. I was thinking about drilling and tapping the mount and adding 2-4 more screws into the mount to help it clamp down.

What about the ejecting shells hitting the scope, any fix for that? I spent 800 on the scop, hate to get another one

You can make a shell, deflector out of sheet metal and bolt it to the scope mount.

That scope is huge....could be putting unnessary strain on the b square mount.

Opt for a smaller scope, maybe a fixed 4x scope.

The -weight of your scope
-shells ejecting into the scope
- and recoil of the bolt

All contribute to the poor accuracy/ losing zero

Why are you using that beast of scope?

Magnification/ size is useless if it won't function.

Lets keep this thread updated. I'm getting the same B-square mount soon and will start my own testing.

It is only 4.5-14x50. I figured it should be good enough to do some shooting 2-300 meters. The reason why I got it was because it was an opend box, 1/3 off, on a Leopoldo that is a lot of dough I figured I can get it to work

I have a smaller Leopoldo vx1 scope, 3-9x40 for my sks, but the svt was going to be my long distance rifle. I wanted a fixed 10x or a bit higher powered scope but this deal was too good to pass up

What sort of scopes can I get for the svt for long range accuracy?
