My "new to me" 1941 Izhevsk SVT-40

LOL...Good surprise. Thought you knew that you had them from the first pic!

You would think so right? I guess I simply did not put 2 and 2 together. Duh !!

As for getting a mount, not really interested... for a variety of reasons. The main one being I'm having way too much fun blasting away using the iron sights. LOL

To the op, beautiful rifle man!

Thx, much appreciated !!

Could someone maybe clarify what is necessary for mounting a scope on the svt? My rifle has the grooves on the sides like in the picture above but no 'notch'. Also, what to look for to determine if one has an avt-40 stock? I believe mine is an avt, only because the stock has notches in both sides of the trigger guard for the safety, which I would think flipping it the right would be full auto? Any info would be much appreciated.

Can't help you with the scope question but I can definitely help with the AVT stock question.

Given that you wrote this... "I believe mine is an avt, only because the stock has notches in both sides of the trigger guard for the safety"... you definitely have an AVT stock.

When I purchased a couple SVT-40s from Lever in December 2013, I specified "AVT stock" and they both came with the notches. One was repaired (notch filled in) but the other has both notches.

Thank you for the clarification. My svt is the only one I have ever handled, so I had nothing to compare to. I hear the avt stocks are a bit beefier to handle the full auto pressures. Hope you enjoy the rifle. From what I've seen online, the 1.5 gas setting works best with surplus ammo. (That is what my rifle came set to and shoots well)

Finally made it out to the range...

Brought along my homemade targets with a couple of mild steel plates for giggles. My 10-year old daughter had fun ringing the plates with her new Marlin 795.

Check out the awesome grouping at 25 yards.

thewhole9yards you should definitely add one to the collection! I recently added an m44 to the collection from my fond memory of shooting yours a while back. I would be down to return the favor and let you try out my svt-40.

Depends if you are looking for a modern mount or the traditional one? If you want to use the original scope mount, then you need the notch to lock it in.....but for a modern mount, then all you need are the rails. One of the sponsors, Corwin Arms sells one. I believe another is Addley Precision.
