A while back I posted that I picked up a K80. I finally got around to taking some pics.

K80-8.jpg

Some close ups are here;

Case Whole Set Other side Receiver Closeup Other side Assembled

It is a basic K80 receiver with a regular 28" 12ga barrel with Tula chokes. The second barrel is a 28" carrier barrel in which the Kolar subgauge tubes fit.

The wood is fugly and has some recoil reduction gizmo on it. Adding insult to injury, even with the adjustable stock, it is WAY too low for me.

In no particular order, I need to get new wood for it and a set of 30" barrels (tubed) for it before it will be shootable (by me).

As this will (should) be the end all be all gun for me, I'm looking to put on a fancy piece of wood. Trying to source this in Canada is a ridiculous challange. I may just end up having one made (big $$$).

A very similar situation with the barrels. I shoot 30" barrels, and don't have much of a desire to shoot 28". It may be possible to find a set of these in Canada, but there is a better market (and a ridiculous demand) in the USA.

Complicating matters is the fact that I finished last season shooting my Beretta extremely well. Switching guns is going to be hard for me to justify to myself. Considering what I'm still looking at having to invest money wise for wood and barrels, having time to get this ready is a good thing.

Brad.

You'll love the Krieghoff, theres nothing better, one question....by the time you replace barrel/s and tube set and rear stock you will be getting near the price of a new one won't you?

My cousin has a K80 with a 2 barrel set. o/u and a single barrell with the high rib. He likes it and shoots it well but I shoot my Ljutic better.

It's seems you have already discovered the good news and bad news about owning a Krieghoff as I did during the time when I owned a Model 32.

The good news is that there are all kinds of spare barrels and wood available for them and they are often interchangeable without much fitting if any.

The bad news is there isn't a lot of selection on this side of the border and getting spares out of the Eastern Canada dealer can be a trying experience.

The larger U.S. shoots frequently have spare K-gun barrels and the older Model 32 barrels are not hard to find in the $1,000USD range. Spare wood isn't hard to get either although factory wood can become expensive.

If you do get to a U.S. shoot where Krieghoff is set up they can do a general service on your gun and help you access spare barrels and wood.

While I'm not certain this applies to Krieghoffs, I've had better luck dealing through the U.K. for Perazzi spares. I found a used trigger assembly and a decent second stock for my MX8 in the U.K. for far less than I would have spent getting it shipped in from the U.S. and with fewer import/export hassles.

It may take some time and $$$ to get this gun where you want it but having been down that road myself it's worth it.

K80

Hi go to www.trapshooters.com and you will find everything you wish.
Watch the postings evrything for a K80 will show up. Wood does not seem to be a problem with customs. Or go PFS stock and your adjustment problem are over along with recoil reduction.
Thanks
Don

Lead times to the Canadian distributers are about 12-13 months currently. :bangHead:

I'll still come out a few bucks ahead in the long run. But yes, nothing like buying a new gun and just having to change 2 things (wood and bbls...) :D

Yes they are. Which explains why the last two guys I know who bought K-guns brought them in from either the U.S. or the U.K. Much faster both ways.

Thanks. I read TS.com semi regularly. The thing about wood is that I want to see it first. Pictures are nice, but actually touching it is more desirable. From there you get into the whole fit thing. I may bite the bullet and have one built for me.

I've contemplated PFS, and it's really not my first choice. I do like the adjustable features. I'm not really looking for recoil reduction, and quite frankly I want to put a nice chunk of wood on it.

Barrels are a PITA over the border, but may be necessary to get anything I actually want. Again I'd want to see them before I was to actually buy them which really complicates the matter. The other problem I am encountering is that 30" bbls are selling for a premium right now. There are lots of reasonable prices for 28", but even finding 30" is hard right now.

Fortunately I have time on my side. I hope to pop south a time or two this upcoming season and will have some folks keeping their eyes open on my behalf.

No doubt. The supply of K80s in a Skeet configuration is amazing in the U.S. I did investigate pursuing that option, and in fact had started to initiate a deal (but was too slow finding a FFL within driving distance).

I'm a little picky in as much as I wanted to physically hold any gun I was going to drop $10k+ into.

In the mean time, I came across one in Canada that I got to try out for a few weeks. I took the 'one in hand' rather than waiting for the 'two in the bush'.

A guy at our club bought a new k80 receiver and barrels, and picked up wood blanks on a trip to the US. I'm not sure who shaped the wood for him, but it looks great.

I'm a little curious Brad. Why give up on the gun you finished "extremely well" with last year?

Is it just the allure of owning a K80?

There's another beautiful K80 in Kingston that the owner just recently hinted about the possibility of selling. It's virtually new with very few rounds through it. It was bought brand new 2 years ago I believe. He has just under $13K into it including beautiful "upgraded" wood, adjustable comb, Briley's and case etc. Just can't say for sure right now if it's 28" or 30". I haven't paid that close attention to it personally.

Not 100% sure how serious he was. Or what he'd want. But "everything's" for sale. Right? ;)

Perhaps selling what you have and dealing on this one might be an option for you?????? It's already in Canada...complete...and you can even fondle it if you like. ;)

Dunno how interested you'd be in this. "shrug"

If you're interested in a name....PM me.

Why give up on the Beretta that put me AAA across the board...... Well, truth is I haven't, and will be shooting it this season (I probably won't switch guns mid-season, and the K80 isn't ready to go yet).

There is indeed a lot of allure to shooting a K80. For the amount of time and effort I put into the sport, I want to lug around something that is a little nicer than average. There is also the reliability factor that comes into play.

I've been interested in switching to a Krieghoff for quite some time, but my recent success with my Beretta just complicates matters (significantly).

I agree. Even though I shoot my Beretta 391 just as well, I like my Perazzi. I'm rarely in contention for HOA at sporting clays but I love shooting my P-gun more than anything I've owned.

You'll adapt to the K80 in no time and once you do you'll wonder why you didn't buy one sooner.;)
