picked up an SkS recently at the LGS for $219.00 and thought I should post pics and find out what you folk's think of her.

she is a Tula from 1950, one thing I spotted is she seems to only have like 2 numbers in the SN

Nice SKS.. looks just like mine…(except the date on yours is different) however your SN is interesting… The SKS Gurus will be able to answer when they chime in.
Congrats on the new SKS.!

It is a 50 transitional SKS. Has the Receiver cover lever tab of the 49 but a 45 degree early gas block. The 2 digit serial is not unusual. They started at 1 and went up from there. There are definitely less of them numbers wise though. I do believe it to be refurbed as the the stock where the Factory and date/serial stamps looks to have been sanded and reshellaced and restamped thus the lighter color and the streaking. Other than that it could be original other than that. I don't see a refurb stamp on the metalwork but not all refurbs were stamped. You will also find the ejector claw and the gas piston will also be electropenciled. These were too small or rounded to be stamped. It will probably be a non-chrome barrel, but it might still have the original spring firing pin. Can't see the bolt so can't say for sure. Beautiful SKS though.

@ Kevt28: I picked the rifle up at Del Selin's in Vernon BC, it was in a crate with 4 or 5 others, and I was able to hand pick it.

@ ljones: from when I had the bolt assembly and bolt carrier out, I saw the stamping of the SN, but I didn't pull the bolt apart for cleaning, I just hit it with G96 cleaner.

I still have to do a major cleaning of this beauty, but I did do a cleaning while at the range so that I could fire it.
The rifle had a fair bit of cosmoline on and in it so I made sure that I cleaned all of the moving parts and the barrel and gas return system , when I take her all the way down for cleaning I will get pictures of all the parts where they are marked, so that way I have a visual record of the SN and other markings.

Please take the time to do a proper cleaning especially the Bolt internals before firing it. Just squirting some cleaner through it is not enough most times there will still be residue still in there. When you fire it with cosmoline still in the firearm the cosmoline can harden from the heat and the burnt gasses, and make fouling worse. The cosmoline is everywhere and if not cleaned out of the bolt especially can cause a dangerous slamfire situation. Take the time to thoroughly clean it before using it. Safety first.
