I recieved my svt- 40 and 880 rounds of ammo this past friday from frontier firearms. I field stripped it, founds it to be fairly easy to do thanks to information provided in this milsurp forum. I took it out on saterday for some afternoon fun lol. I didnt have a camera handy to post pics but after adjusting the rear sight a little bit, i was getting 3" groups at 100 yards`with surplus ammo. Everyone should have one of these fine rifles

They are beautiful rifles! I was quite surprised what I managed at 100yards. I want another one, but I have too many rifles in the list and not enough space.

My son and I both own the SVT40. They are our favorite rifles to shoot at the range. Tagging the 200 yard target constantly with open sights with my old eyes, I can't ask for more. People are missing out on a great gun if it's not in their collection.

how long to strip, clean after corrosive ammo, and reassemble?

How much time , honestly , to clean this rifle, gas system too after shooting corrosive ammo. Everyone says 2mins for an SKS I say b.s. Takes that long just to boil the water, much less disassemble. wash down, clean with GI solvent, clean that off, the put protective coat of clp on.So how long for your SVT, thanks!

I can do it in about 30 mins, full cleaning and disassembly.

I shot one a week ago.. I was suprised how much larger than the SKS it is. Definitely more of a kick as well :) The wood furniture is really intricate on these.. I like that!

I preferred the iron sights on the sks, but still enjoyed the big svt40.

Congrats on your new acquisition. I find it almost as easy to disassemble as an SKS its just the dust cover that gives me the most trouble in removing but its getting easier. Was amazed the first time I shot it sans butt pad expecting a shoulder thumping but it actually has rather mild recoil owing to the muzzle brake and the fact its a semi auto. A word of caution to those who wish to reload for this beast, YOU CAN'T. The fluted chamber absolutely rapes brass! So this is a surplus/steel cased ammo only rifle or if you don't mind spending a buck a shot or more for quality brass factory non corrosive. Personally for use at the indoor range where I shoot I pull the bullets from the surplus cases and replace with lead core bullets. Enjoy :D

indoor..with a SVT ?

hope you are doubling up on the hearing protection

damn..we can only use handguns and shotguns at my winter range

I did notice right away how it destroys brass. The recoil to me is milder than my short barreled m305, thanks to the mile long barrel lol. After shooting corrosive ammo it takes me about 40 minutes to clean it up, iam never in a hurry anyways lol

Don't let corrosive ammo/extra cleaning time hold you back. Just make sure that when you take it out, you shoot it enough to make it worth while!
