do what the gun is meant to do....shoot and enjoy. i have a beautiful Lone Star that will see action for the first time ...during this Summer. Tired of having it only to look at so out it goes to be enjoyed.

ya my first plan was not to shoot it and on the way home from reddeer to fort mac i couldnt take it anymore stoped at a small shop and bought a box of ammo then stoped at the first cut road i could find only thing i did wrong was let my gf be the first one to shoot it lol

Gotta marry her now my friend!

I picked up a 1900 vintage 1894 last April at the Maynards auction here in Vanc. Surprised the hell out of me to find ammo on the shelves at Reliable Guns here in town. Expensive but it was fun to shoot. Got some cast from OMA on Vancouver Island and will reload with that. Apparently they prefer cast boolits. For a giggle google 38-55 and look at all the sites that come up. Best iron sights I have used on a rifle unless I upgraded. That 26in barrel is a hoot. For a supposedly obsolete cartridge it sure has a big fan club.

The 38-55 is a hammer. Moose to 150 yards, no problem. If you're going to go cast, slug the bore first, to get the proper diameter, or tell your bullet supplier the vinatge of your gun. Run gas checks and fill the case with IMR3031. Barnes makes jacketed in two sizes, and they shoot very well. IMR3031 again. I don't know if those rifles are drilled for a tang sight or not, but a Marbles rear, and globe style front, with the round insert, make it a very accurate rifle to 200 yards, and well beyond. Enjoy your new rifle!

Don't bother with the comm. ammo. It is very week & inconsistant. Had one when they first came out, preorder for $795, I think. Many sold, after the crash of comm. prices, for $400. Same with the Sask model.
