Finally managed to save up enough pennies to get a dedicated gopher/varmint gun and this is what I purchased.
Its a Remington VSSF II .204 Ruger with a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50. I was very reluctant to buy Remington after 2 other M700 had issues with feeding and extraction but both were bought off the exchange and have a feeling the previous owners sold them that way. Anyway I decided to give Remington one more go with a new gun.
I've read that the higher end Remingtons are better built?? Not sure if that true but the fit and finish of this gun was very good. Trigger pull is horrendous and is getting replaced with either a Timney or Jewell but other then that I'm very happy.
I hit the range and the temp was +32...stinkin hot. I could only shoot 3 shot groups, the odd one I put 4 in but the barrel would just get too hot to do 5 shots.
I was shocked how accurate this gun is. The test target was one of my best groups but never had a load shoot over .75" with Sierra 32 gr BK's and H322.
Remington is discontinuing the VSSF II from what I read now, too bad as its really a tack driver with a good stock.
Guess I can't bad talk Remingtons any more
