Just acquired a very pretty rifle this week. I have a bucket of RCBS 150 grain gas check bullets I will be using. Hope to post a range report within a week. Hope to put some venison on the table with this one. Here is the Factory Information:

Serial number 174878 applied on February 24, 1903

Type: Rifle
Caliber: 30
Barrel Type: Round
Trigger: Plain
1/2 Magazine
Takedown
Received in warehouse on March 30, 1903
Shipped from warehouse on March 31, 1903, Order Number 182256

Here is a photo, but the photo does not do it justice. In real life, the blueing is much darker than the photo shows.

Here's another photo that shows the blue better:

Mike Web I got it from another collector here in Canada. I think he got it from someone in western Canada if I recall correctly. I'm not sure of the wood, it would be at least 1X, I don't know the rating system. Sometimes, Winchester would put a little nicer wood on special order rifles.

mrgoat: You are right ... I got it for a durn sight more than $400. Pretty much wiped out my gun savings to get my hands on this beaut, but I feel real good about it, thank goodness! :D

WOW that is nice! Excellent condition considering it's age, shows how many generations of gun owners have appreciated it's beauty and taken care of it. Glad to hear it's going to be shot and put to work as it was intended to be.

I have the purchase of a lever action on my bucket list..... Might be a while as i keep buying hand guns, but yeah, i def want one of these fine looking riffles. Thanks for posting the pics.

Very nice 1894 Kirk ;) I would say the foreend is at least 1X. You often see extra grain / extra finish wood on TD rifles. Has nice wood like that 53 of yours. I like the look of the 1/2mag TD too and that special order Marbles Sheard Front sight. I am interested to hear how you make out with those cast 150 grainers. Something like that might work well in my 22".
Matt
