:D After waitng for the better part of a year my Ruger #1 -S 9.3X74R finally arrived today. Thought it was going to be in the Tropical heavy barrel configuration but a 22" light barreled 9.3 came out of the box.:D
-37c this morning so test firing a few rounds off the bench will be out of the question today! Will post a few pics for the curious a little later on this evening. Have 200 rounds of new Norma brass a few hundred Speer and Nosler bullets. Just waitng patiently for WSS package at the door for the RCBS dieset thats enroute.

Now sports a Burris 13/4- 5x and non factory offset rings.
Not much game to be had at -37c except them pesky Bison we have.

Cool!
Is this your first 9,3?
I've never tried the 74R version but the other two I've tried are great.

-37! Be interesting to hear a rifles report in that cold a temperature.

Are you going to scope it?

Well RockChucker, now that you are the first on the block to get one of these 9.3X74's your going to have to tell us where you got the rifle, brass and dies!....I did'nt think that they would be showing up here in Canada for at least another year...
Really glad to hear Ruger decided to make it more into a lighter weight "stalking" type rifle instead of a "Tropical" ....who needs a "Tropical" when it's -37*C.......eh?..:D

9.3x74R

This 9.3 is my third in total from 9.3x57 to 9.3x74R. Can't wait to start casting some bullets this spring. Brass came from a source in Texas for under a $1.00 per. Bullets and dieset from Wholesale sports. Sorry guys but I bought the only RCBS dieset they had in 9.3X74R.
The Ruger was purchased from our local sports shop {Hougens Sports Lodge} here in Whitehorse. Originated from Inland Pacfic in B.C.

Nice rifle Rockchucker! One mod I made to my #1; filed the front half of the tang safety down and refinished so that the rounds being ejected clear the action instead of bouncing off the safety.

That safety on yours looks like it would get in the way just as mine did.

Just a suggestion, YMMV

RockChucker, your thread on this rifle made my day!...Was feeling kind'a bummed out when I found out that we have another 4-5 weeks of logging left to do yesterday..:( ...but now looking on the bright side I'll have more than enough extra $ to buy one of these little beauties!....I cast also and have two NEI 9.3 molds and was sizing down .377" to .385" boolits to .368" in a custom push tru die after lubing them first...It say's on Rugers website that this rifle has a 1:10 twist which concerns me for shooting cast at high vel...guess we'll just have to wait and see......cheers

Very classy Rockchucker! That scope really comliments it too!
How is the trigger? Of the three we had they were very stiff.
They were M77's but I think they use similar parts.

Look forward to the range report, what weight will you cast?

The trigger is rather good breaks clean @ 4 lbs may have to play with it a bit to get it down some.
Will have to get mountain molds to make a couple of custom molds for me one that weighs 250gr and one @ 300gr. I've good luck with his molds that he made up for me in .412" for #1 in 405win and .458" for #1 in 45/70 and .512" for my #3 in 50 Alaskan.

I'm sure it will shoot as good as it looks. I hung on to my .22-250 but now after seeing yours, I wish I had kept the .375 H&H also. Down the road I'd like to pick up a .45-70.
I have an article from the September 2000 issue of RIFLE titled The Ruger No. 1, Shooting & Tuning by Ross Seyfried. If you're interested, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a scan of it.
