I just posted about a deer I took with my Poly M305: M14 is a Sporting Tool!!!
In case anyone was interested in the work I did on the Poly I named "Betty" here is Front to Back modifications list:
Yet to do:
I give my gratious thanks to all the advice that is given by those that have done before and made the mistakes so those like me don't have to, just to name a few: Hungry, M14 Doctor, SkullBoy, Lazerus2000, m39a2, and any and all I missed...

In case anyone was interested in the work I did on the Poly I named "Betty" here is Front to Back modifications list:
- New Flash Hider: The old one was a "faux" style and it split full length upon removal even though I drilled and stressed the welds.
- Peaned the Flash Hider splines
- Peaned the Gas Splines
- Utinized the Gas Assembly: I did this because of a known POI wander that has been fixed by this procedure.
- Shimmed the Gas Assembly: The nut was tightening at the 11 o'clock position but now tightens at the 4:30 position.
- NM the Front Ferrule: Removed improper pressures caused by the stock on the gas assembly, again to fix the know POI wander, now fixed. This was explained to me in my topic Clarification Wanted: Norc/Poly Front Ferrule Space.
- Re-pinned the Op Rod Guide Ring: M305 came with a broken roll pin.
- New Tartan Tactical Spring Guide: I can feel the difference that makes in the operation.
- Buffed the Receiver: Removed a few of the rough machining marks.
- Checked the Bolt Lugs: Made sure the bolt lugs were applying even pressure to the receiver: I did not have to lap them, luckily.
- Minor Trigger Job : Not everything was engaging right so a complete cleaning and lube was most of what was done, plus Hungry's Football/Hockey Game trigger job.
- Lock-tite Rear Sight: Every time I used the windage knob it got very loose so a tiny amount of Lock-tite did the job.
- Welded the Front Sling Point: Removed, tack welded, painted and re-installed.
- Recoil Pad Added: Riveted and epoxied, used a Marlin Limb Saver unit because it was small.
- Scope Mount: Lots of fuss to be sure it was on right, including using a ARMS bolt because it is smaller than a knob.
- Bushnell 3-9 x40: Was told a M305 "kicks the sh!t" out of scopes so I put a nice but not expensive scope on.
- Camo Sling: Cheap at $12 but works excellent, from site sponsor P&D Enterprises; softer and less noise on the attachment points than Poly Tech one. Added a Maxpedition shoulder pad.
- CoyoteM1A Cheek Riser: Best $45 I could spend, I just can't recommend one enough.
- Stock Paint Job : Yours Truly custom paint including a major clean job and low temp oven bake to get all the oil out of it; plastic specialty primer; three coats of green base Ultra Flat Camo paint; and a namesake "proud to be in Canada" sticker under the 4 coats of matte sealer. I didn't add brown or tan camo to areas of high usage like under the cheek riser and around the action.
- EDIT - Headspace: Thanks to Hungry, it seems I have average Norc/Poly headspacing.
Yet to do:
- Front Sight: I plan on setting the front sight and adjusting it as needed.
- Reloading: I have 155 and 168gr Sierra match bullets to load.
