...anyone seen this before, I have heard of it but not seen it personally until today. I was having a complete armorer check of a Colt the other day ...complete clean, solvent tank, new crane kit etc etc...I get a call that upon a bore scope inspection there is a "ring" near the front of the barrel...WTF!!! I just shot the gun in August and it was a fricking laser beam ...I saw it today, there is indeed a circular aberration in the barrel ...I am pissed, anyone have a new Colt barrel kicking around???...they gotta be cheap right:kickInTheNuts:

If it 'shoots like a laser beam', why would you GAFF about what the bore scope sees?
If accuracy had decayed, I would be looking for a new barrel...otherwise, shoot it until it does!

My sentiments exactly - keep running the carbine until you require a barrel replacement.

If there is a ring near the muzzle end of the barrel, it might indicate some sort of minor obstruction that caused a bulge. Ie. dirt, cleaning cloth. Not enough to blow the barrel or cause a squib, but something that did cause a slight blockage, but allowed the bullet to exit.

Just a guess.

Accuracy is dependent usually on the last 2 inches or so just prior to the bullet exiting. That's why the crown is so important. Therefore if it's back in the barrel further, you may not even notice any loss of accuracy. I've seen PPC revolvers with a bulge in the middle, and still Ransom half an X ring at 50yds. Sure plays with the brain though.

Cutting a chrome lined barrel is a tricky business. If not done properly by someone knowledgible, the results can be problematic when the chrome chips and flakes.

I may be totally wrong because I haven't ever cut a chrome lined barrel, however, I was under the impression that hard chroming (the type in a barrel) doesn't flake the same way chrome on a bumper would......

There is a guy in the states (Ned Christiansen?) that sells/makes a chamber reamer for enlarging the throat on .223 barrels so they will accept 5.56 ammo, and he said that the hard chrome doesn't flake off........

again, I have never done it and don't know anyone who has, so that info may be totally wrong.......
