This may be more appropriate in the hunting forum as it is intended to be hunted but I feel it may get more appreciation here.

A few years ago I ran across "Long Range Pursuit" and thought those rifles look nice. Later I found myself in Grouse River and seen the sticker on one and thought WTF? How does that gun add up to $10g +. So I started searching the EE for my next project.

I came across a Tikka M65 in 7mm rem mag with a broken stock. A little internet research and I learned that the M65's were very well built actions. The triggers were supposedly great, came with a detachable magt and they shot pretty well too. I snatched it up and placed an order for a McMillan stock. 10 months later a McMillan game scout showed up. I ordered the stock with pillars installed, 3'' seeking rail up front, 2 flush cups on the left side and a 1" limbsaver. Colours are olive drab, black and woodland beige. I found a fluted broughton #4 contour, 1-9 twist barrel on the EE so I grabbed that too. The parts were sent to Terry at Black Art Rifle Company. The gun was bedded, barrel fitted and chambered in 7mm rem mag. The metal was coated with matte black cerakote.

For glass I decided to take a leap of faith and ordered a Bushnell LRHS 4.5-18x44. Omer from Plain Sight Solutions helped me out with the purchase. I've had bad luck with bushy's in the past but I've never owned a high end one. Omer assured me the quality of these scopes is excellent and at first glance I have to agree. My only experience with higher end glass is with Nightforce and all I can say at this point is the glass is very similar to my eye. The scope allowed me to have a zero stop, smaller objective, less weight and a save a fair chunk of change over a comparable Nightforce.

Started barrel break in today but the range got busy and I left before I could accomplish much. This will be rifle #3 from Terry and if his past work is any indication I'm sure I'll have a rifle that will give any LR1000 a run for less than half the price. Thanks again to Terry and Omer for helping me get this thing together. I'll update the thread once I get her up and running. (If anybody knows where there is a supply of 168gr LRAB's I'd love to hear about it)

Nice rifle !

Are you satisfied with the finnish quality of the stock and with McMillan overall QC ?

This is McMillan #4 for me and each one has been great. My only complaint would be lead time and price. Aside from having to remove about 1mm from the area under the bolt release the barrelled action dropped right ( There was no recess for the bolt release and it bound up when I first put the barrelled action in the stock. 5 min with a small fine fine cured the problem). The barrel channel had to be relieved for the new barrel but that wasn't McMillians fault. I ordered it for the factory barrel. I wouldn't hesitate to use a McMillan on any build.

I don't want to hijack this thread ( because i'm good at this  ) but its good to know they are back on tracks.

I was asking because last summer I received my McMillan stock that I was waiting for almost a year.
It was horrible. It looked like a used stock. The inletting for the adjustable cheekrest was the worst ever, it looked like it was installed by a blind monkey. Ordered with a Anschutz rail and a scres was missing... Everything was horrible. The more I looked into it, the more defects I found. To the point i returned the crappy stock.

I had other McMillan stocks in the past and I never had any complaints.
The last one I received, there is not a chance I can live with that poor quality for the price I paid.

Just to give you an idea...
The pics were taken the same day I got it so it was brand new.

Now I need to find another one but I will have to pay alot more for one because of the CAN$.

Enjoy you Tikka and let us know how it shoot ! ( even if I don't worry this thing will shoot small bug holes )

That is horrible. This stock was ordered over 2 years ago so they may very well have some new QC issues. The problems you had are unacceptable. They've always done well by me but if I received that I would have a different opinion
