I bought my Savage 110 for 450$ ~5 years ago. It has an accustock and an accutrigger. Shot fairly well with the factory barrel. Shoots good with a Benchmark. Hard to call that rifle anything other than excellent value.
I can’t comment on your buddies rifle as I am not familiar with the new models. Has he tried to use it yet? I know oftentimes things that look crappy end up being better than expected.
As for all the Tikka fans circling above, I think you need to go back to playing with your rifle bolts. The only way you are shooting tight groups is if you don’t count the first shot.
I have owned/own a pile of tikkas and a couple sakos. No issue whatsoever shooting very tight groups including the first shot from a cold barrel as long as the barrel was fouled. Any barrel will need one or 2 fouling shots after a cleaning. Even if there in the group at 100 they are always much slower and that can be seen at long range. Seen it many times from all makes. After 1 or 2 fouling shots all is good.
Owned a very accurate ruger once that shot low from a cold barrel. Never did figure it out. Didn't bother me much either but it was there. Never missed a shot at anything cause of it.
For the record 10 years ago I was a die hard savage fan. Cause of there supposed superior accuracy. That's all I owned. Every hunting magazine had adds from savage claiming superior accuracy. I've smartened up since then. Like I said I still have a few as dedicated long range rigs. That's where that action shines. Otherwise.......na. but it's a free country.
