I refinished the stock it was pretty clean but the stock looked dark red and the upper front hand guard was a lovely blonde however did not match. So i stripped off the cosmoline and heated it out of the wood and then sanded off the varnish and restained with varathane cherry stain. I also used a darker beachwood stain then a 2nd coat of cherry on the handguard which matched up nicely! I sealed it with clear varathane gloss.

So didnt take a before but heres an after.

Lucky! I'm on the hunt for a M38 now after owning my first mosin 91/30. Was that a "one off" buy at Corlanes or do they have more M44's?

The refinish job is a beauty btw.
 
Thanks all, next time I will remember to do a before picture, you could phone and ask for Steve@ corelanes. Hes the man down there for surplus stuff. Ive been scoping corwin arms at his m38s. I intend to shoot it soon and put some targets on here.
