So, I posted a pic of my solidworks design of my bench a few weeks or so back. After 4 days of casual construction, I'm this far along:

All made with home depot 11.5mm russian plywood "handy-panels". 8 panels in total, a old solid core door contact cemented with arborite, 3 foot fluorescent light, wood glue, brads, lee valley drawer slides, gonna grab some locks and hinges shortly, and always a nap every 4 hours or so.

Nah. It's pretty solid. That right there weighs about 120 pounds. Russian ply has a lot of laminations so it's quite strong for it's thickness. I had solidworks do it's little stress flex test on it and it passed the simulation... so "in theory" it should work ok with the press.

^ Zey, that looks pretty much like the same plywood I used. Mine is a birch 'imported' plywood; I never asked where it's from though.

Is your shelf a kit? Or did you design it and cut the pieces? Are you going to make it wider, add more shelves etc... ?

Yes, imported birch is russian ply. It's like marine grade but without the marine grade price.

I designed it myself. No, not any wider. It's 42" wide right now. I rent a place and have very limited space. This bad boy is gonna live in my bedroom, haha. Oh well.

Baltic birch, if that is what it is, is extremely strong. No voids and very stiff. The sheets we've been getting have been warped on occasion. We usually make drawers out of it anyway.

Do not confuse Baltic birch with the chinese garbage plywood that has been going around. That stuff warps terribly when you cut it and we've had it split on the glue lines.
