Thanks to the help on here, I bought one of these and have it exactly how I want it now.

Remington 700p in .308 (barrel cut down to 22")
Glass is an SWFA 10x mounted w/ Millet Tactical rings on a NightForce rail (I've wanted an SWFA scope for about 6 years).

Thanks again for the help on this one. I originally wanted an M40 or M24 and this was a great compromise to keep the cost down.

Great way to get into the game! I started with a near identical setup

My 700P loved Hornady 168gr Match (AMAX) and I copied the load at home. Couldn't get the heavy 175/178's to group great but the barrel was damn near shot out at that point!

I'm sure she will treat you well :)

I just bought a Remington 700P myself from the EE ( it's in very good condition) and I am looking forward to shoot it. Mine is going to wear a Sightron SIII 8X32X56.
Congrats !

My first bolt gun was a 700p.....wish I still had it actually. Sold it to a buddy and he flipped it to some guy in Alberta.

Don't know much about SWFA glass, will have to look into those sometime.

Thanks guys...

Good to know about loads: I will have to try the Hornady 168gr Match. Any other suggestions would be great. I'm doing my research but reviews don't tell you what's readily available at most stores.

Did you get the SWFA in Canada? If so can you share where?

Sorry, I was just in the right place at the right time to get my SWFA. It was brand new but I paid a little more than RRP for it.

What kind of crown did you do after cutting the barrel ?

I got it done by a gun smith. He suggest an 11 degree target crown, so I went with that.

I got mine on the EE too. Only 20 shots though it. $900 shipped with the Night Force rail. Some great deals on the EE sometimes.

You will have something a little nicer than my SFWA then. I would like a high end scope at some point (I just don't have the money for that at the moment).

SWFA isn't the best you can get, but you could argue they make some of the most rugged and versatile scopes (fixed series that is). They have a contract with the US military (I think more so the army, but I have seen pictures of other branches with them too).
