I got this idea for a challenge from another forum and thought it was a good idea. The idea is to shoot five 5 shot groups on the same paper and on the same day. It doesn't really matter about the point of impact. But all 5 groups must be on the same paper. Once you have completed this you may post the pictures here. Here is what you will need to do before you post your pics.

-take a picture of your rig just as it was when you were shooting the groups. Including what you used for a rest.

-take a picture of your target paper with all 5 groups visible in the picture. The group sizes must be written on the paper beside each group. **The paper must only have the 5 "official" groups on it.

-All groups must be under .500" @ 100 yards/meters

-Take a close up of your smallest group of the 5 with the measurement beside it along with the caliper showing the group size.

-When measuring your groups be sure to measure the groups properly. This is a good example of how to measure your group. Measure the extreme outside spread of your group and then subtract the bullet diameter

-Include your rifle info.

-The target must not have anything laying on it that could be hiding a failed attempt.

-Include your 5 group sizes in your post (sometimes they are to small to read when they are written on the target)

Question: does each group have to measure 0.500" or less? Or does the average of the five groups' sizes have the be 0.500" or less?

This task would be pretty close to being a no-brainer for a Benchrest shooter. It would be somewhere between "decently challenging" and "pretty damn hard" for most other competitive rifle shooters. It would be very rare to see this accomplished with a factory rifle.

Question2 (thinking here of ways to 'game' your rules): if I put up a piece of paper and shoot ten 5-shot groups, may I circle five groups and have that count? Would this be contrary to the spirit of your rules, or would it be OK?

Sounds similar to the snipers hide challenge. It took me about 30 min or so to do it.

I did what you asked except I shot 6 - 5 shot groups.

All groups must be under .500" and ONLY 5 groups. No picking and choosing. The idea is to separate the talkers from the doers.

I like it. I just may go out Friday with my Rem 700 .223.................................

Just something else to maybe add to it. How many attempts it took to get 5 groups in a row under 1/2".

As long as the "official" target only has 5 groups is all that really matters. But if you wish to inform everyone how many tries it took go ahead.

Might be interesting for those who know they can't achieve this too. Just get the best five groups on one paper to show your honest best. I know I can't get there yet.

Hmmmm this won't be easy. My vote would be for .5MOA average since you're referencing the ,5". If all shots are under the .5" mark then wouldn't you say "my rifle shoots better than .5MOA all day"?

25 shots on one paper with no "flyers" eh? Yup, this will be hard. I'll be eager to see how many people post too! Personally I think there are way too many people on the Internet who claim 1/4" groups.

Hell, everyone with a Cooper will be able to beat this....lol...after all they guarantee 1/2" or better in writing....don't they?

I like the idea of knowing when someone says my gun shoots under .5" he means that he can go out right now and shoot a group under .5". If the group is larger he then has to say well if I shoot 4 more groups the average will be under .5". Besides you can have 4 groups that measure .55" then shoot one group of .2" and have an average of .48". I wouldn't call that a sub .5" rifle.

I too think all groups should be under the 1/2". Looking forward to trying it but it'll be in a few weeks.
