So I was looking into getting a .22lr that was going to be a little more fun than my old bolt action Cooey, and was thinkin SR22! Now the issue was that I owned a 597 VTR when they were first released. I had some fun with it but the takedown sucked and I just though it was kinda ugly, and felt cheap. The free float handguard never stayed straight, and I just plain didnt like it. Needless to say I sold it, and gave up on the whole idea of a fun .22.

So I have seen all the million threads about the SR22 and it sparked my interest. I was also vey interested in the M&P but after it was restricted that pretty much ruined the whole idea of a plinker for me. Anyway one of my issues with the VTR was that it just wasnt accurate enough for my liking. So I thought about a Savage Mark II TR which looks cool as hell, but the bolt action was just not gonna cut it at the cottage with all my family wanting something cool. It was while looking for the best price on the Savage that I stumbled across this thing on Lebarons website catalog(I know they suck, but have good prices).

So here she is the Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical! 10/22 with a 16 inch target hammer forged(spiral design) bull barrel, Hogue overmodled stock, Bipod, and weaver rail included.

At 25 yards she shoots into one large whole. At 50 yards I am getting some 1/2 inch groups, but with the cheap bulk ammo there is alot of room for improvement. Ive been using the Winchester Xpert HV with great results, and Blazer also shoots well. Today I tried a box of Eley target ammo, and printed 1/2 inch groups consistently.(7/10 groups)

Now as far as reliability goes, I am simply amazed. This thing functions better than any .22 I have ever fired. Blazers function so far 100 percent, and that is after about 500 rounds! The other ammo Ive been using with really good results is the Winchester Expert HV and had maby 5 ftf which are just from the crappy ammo. Federal, and American eagle also feed and fucntioned flawlessly with the few hundred I put through her to test for accuracy.

Anyways it was too busy at the range today, and I wasnt gonna wait to go get my targets so I dont have pictures of the groups but they are very good for a semi auto .22.

I would recomend this thing to anyone thinking of picking up a .22. Really all the tacticool crap on the SR22 aint gonna do much for your groups so thats why I went this way. I was gonna buy a basic 10/22 and just build something myself but for the money this just seemed a better deal. 10/22 = $300, Bull Barrel = $200, Stock = $100, Bipod = $50, but I only paid $550 for this thing. So I feel it is a pretty decent deal, and like I said would recommend it to anyone.

Great review. Looking to purchase my first firearm and i think this made up my mind. If you don't mind me asking what scope are you using?

That looks like a really nice little rifle. I'm partial to stainless steel where possible, but still, if I didn't already own a 10/22 I'd consider that model.

The scope is jst a cheap take off from a Savage 11fcxp package rifle. Sold the gun awhile ago so just had it kickin around. I will prolly upgrade to a cheap Tasco with adjustable AO because the crosshairs are not able to focus at 25m with this one. Not that I reall plan on using it at less than 50m, but sometimes for the newbs or on windy days it is necessary.

Nice shooting!.....

So I took her out today and although it was a little windy I am very impressed once again at the performance from this gun! I have already found out that she likes the Winchester Xpert High Velocity ammo so that is what I brought. I shot 10 groups at 25m, and 4 at 50m 1 of them being rapid fire. So instead of making a long winded post like the last one Ill get right to the pics. I will say that this rifle can definetily do better. I am just getting used to the trigger. It breaks clean but it is pretty damn heavy!

Best groups at 25m:

This one was 10 shots rapid fire at 25m:

This was the best of 3 5 shot groups at 50m. The others were closer to an inch with some flyers. This is where the trigger pull would make an improvment.

Again that stiff trigger really made it harder at 50m. I would occasionally get a flyer but I keep telling myself its just the cheap ammo. LOL. Anyways I am still very impressed, and I was hitting the gong at 200m no problem. Next step is gonna be seeing how she does at 100m, but today was windy and I figured I wouldnt have a chance. Even the .223 was feeling the effects of the wind. Anyways I figure for what I paid it would be hard to beat these results. Especially in a semi auto. I am interested to see what a new trigger group would do to these results. I am used to a trigger closer to 3 pounds, and this one has to be 4 or 5 at least. But I am happy, and if you can find one dont hesitate to pick one up!
