So I was looking into getting a .22lr that was going to be a little more fun than my old bolt action Cooey, and was thinkin SR22! Now the issue was that I owned a 597 VTR when they were first released. I had some fun with it but the takedown sucked and I just though it was kinda ugly, and felt cheap. The free float handguard never stayed straight, and I just plain didnt like it. Needless to say I sold it, and gave up on the whole idea of a fun .22.
So I have seen all the million threads about the SR22 and it sparked my interest. I was also vey interested in the M&P but after it was restricted that pretty much ruined the whole idea of a plinker for me. Anyway one of my issues with the VTR was that it just wasnt accurate enough for my liking. So I thought about a Savage Mark II TR which looks cool as hell, but the bolt action was just not gonna cut it at the cottage with all my family wanting something cool. It was while looking for the best price on the Savage that I stumbled across this thing on Lebarons website catalog(I know they suck, but have good prices).
So here she is the Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical! 10/22 with a 16 inch target hammer forged(spiral design) bull barrel, Hogue overmodled stock, Bipod, and weaver rail included.
At 25 yards she shoots into one large whole. At 50 yards I am getting some 1/2 inch groups, but with the cheap bulk ammo there is alot of room for improvement. Ive been using the Winchester Xpert HV with great results, and Blazer also shoots well. Today I tried a box of Eley target ammo, and printed 1/2 inch groups consistently.(7/10 groups)
Now as far as reliability goes, I am simply amazed. This thing functions better than any .22 I have ever fired. Blazers function so far 100 percent, and that is after about 500 rounds! The other ammo Ive been using with really good results is the Winchester Expert HV and had maby 5 ftf which are just from the crappy ammo. Federal, and American eagle also feed and fucntioned flawlessly with the few hundred I put through her to test for accuracy.
Anyways it was too busy at the range today, and I wasnt gonna wait to go get my targets so I dont have pictures of the groups but they are very good for a semi auto .22.
I would recomend this thing to anyone thinking of picking up a .22. Really all the tacticool crap on the SR22 aint gonna do much for your groups so thats why I went this way. I was gonna buy a basic 10/22 and just build something myself but for the money this just seemed a better deal. 10/22 = $300, Bull Barrel = $200, Stock = $100, Bipod = $50, but I only paid $550 for this thing. So I feel it is a pretty decent deal, and like I said would recommend it to anyone.
