Hi ruger gurus?
nah how yas going?

Im well thanks.

long an short of it, remember a while ago I got the Ramline stock for the Hawkeye mk2 to swap out the Walnut... Cool.

Then I shot it a bit an didn't spent much time cleaning up the stock an thought the fit was nice an tight.. tights not real good an I chipped a piece off the rear of the action.. after a few shots.

I re aligned the Crosshairs to a proper Verticle LOL (after 4 years) sigh of relief
then I noticed the action bolts had loosened as I began sightin in, so I tightened them up but this time I Cranked them up all tight as I could......

I since Read about some Rugers like certain Torques, some like a sequence and some don't mind it Tight!

I believe I asked on here before about the Above,
but since searching I came across a thread on 24hcf about something to do with the Wood stocks, cracking the Bridge between Mag box and Trigger well under Recoil, So I thought I would check mine out... Sure enough it has a hairline crack, when stressed opens up.. Where does this leave me with the Walnut?

So ruger gurus, what do you make of this and your own experiences

Hmmmm,

I like your posts about Sambar hunting.

My mk ii is pre-hawkeye all weather. Factory plastic free floated. Lately I've been hearing a lot about torquing the action screws with the rifle vertical butt on the floor so the recoil lug is firmly seated throughout the process. Starting with the front screw to seat the recoil lug. Of course the ruger with its angled front screw will seat the recoil lug but its this aspect that makes me think tightening the front scew first is even more important. If the rear screw is tightened first and the recoil lug isnt seated the angled screw will pull the lug into place and stress the stock in the process.

It took a while to find a load but now its serving quite well. 350rem mag btw

Don't know what to do with your walnut stock, epoxy the crack?

Gday mate, Thanks, glad to hear it.

Yeah your theory sounds good, and I think the answer is just find a synthetic stock for it an go from there.

in the mean time im carting it around to try get a worthwile sambar stag with it up close, stalking. and then go from there.

I pinned every Ruger wood stock I have ever owned and several for buddies. I always pin behind mag box/ahead of trigger group and then sometimes behind the tang just ahead of the checkering points. For this I use a # 10 or 12 brass screw, predrill the stock smaller than the screw (obviously) and then I mix up some epoxy bedding compound or slow dry epoxy and using a small wire get as much into the hole as possible. Install the screw into the epoxy filled hole making sure the screw threads engage all the way through (you need about a 4" screw for this), cut off both sides and allow 24 hrs to set up good. Now carefully file the screw stubs down to the stock and all you will see is 2 brass dots, one either side of the action. On rifles with more recoil I also do it just behind the rear action screw in the pistol grip, just ahead of the checkering point. I have done my 375 Ruger this way and so far so good.

Of course this is always done in conjunction with a complete action bedding job..............

Thanks a lot for that info CBFMI! I will look into that for sure for this Walnut stock.

I have actually been in contact with a bloke who has a Ruger synthetic stock, its off a 300 Win, will that Magnum length action, fit my Long Action or are Ruger different?

Thanks
