The Mosin Nagant is a 1942, has a lovely kick and i alright with it at 100 yards shooting steel, still need practice to be great though.

Whole lotta fun here, got a .22 Stevens Model 300 and hoping to get my RPAL and pick up a Handgun or 2 in the near future.

The round targets were at 50 meters, shooting open sights, i just started shooting again after a 10 year break from it, so im very happy with that to start off. The man shaped target was at 100 meters i was doing some testing and goofing around at the time, me and another guy with a CZ 858 were going shot for shot at paper and steel targets trying to see who could knock em down faster. Was a lot of fun and cant wait to get back out with it in a week or 2.

I did pretty well shooting 4 x 6 inch steel targets with the Mosin after i ran out of SKS ammo. :)

Sergey, i love em both, but right now the SKS get more use just on cost of ammo alone, its cost more for 40 7.62 x 54R round then it does for 100 &.62 x 39 Rounds, i also have a 22 for those days im feeling really cheap. The SKS is a lot of fun to shoot, can do some fast firing, but i love the bigger bang of the Mosin, plus i find the trigger on the Mosin has less travel and is crisper, but with concentration i can do alright shooting the SKS. Moneys a big thing cause i wanna get my first pistol sometime in the near future, plus a shot gun for clays as well, but still gonna be bringing my rifles to the range as often as i can.

Back In

I was out at that very same range sunday getting my orientation, getting back into the game after 20 years, just bought an sks and 2 mosins, same thing ,I want a 22 Handgun now .Most likely a ruger target Mark 3. Probably see you out there some time. I will be going out to try the sks next week!

Looks like all you stripper clips are empty. You need more ammo. Lol.
The mosin looks fantastic. I have never fired one before, and am thinking of picking one up. How is ammo availability for these 7.62x54r.?

Ammo for the Mosin is not cheap, i get looked around Halifax area and the only place i found that carries any at all was the Army Navy store, but its the commercial soft points, about 20 bucks a box, i did request they try to bring in some Surplus stuff but not sure if it'll be there next week when i gets off this ship, or what it might cost to buy. Guess we'll see, im looking at picking up a crate sometime over the summer, guess ill see how things go.

I'm finding it really hard to not pick up one of those $139 Mosins from SFRC.

JAGDMORDER, check out SFRC for 7.62x54R ammo.
Cheers. Not as bad as I thought. I have never really had a chance to fire
x54R before:eek:, and would like to learn more about that caliber.

cheap ammo

Unless you are close enough to go pick the rifle up,go on westrifle .com and look at their mosins $125 shipped,I got one, Nice, they hand pick even the shooter grades, fantastic rifles and great guys to deal with.w:h:

The Mosin is an awesome rifle, left a nice bruise on my shoulder after 40 shots the last time i fired it. Pretty accurate too, at least better then my current skill level can use right now. Plus it has a nice though not painful recoil, give me a nice warm feeling to shoot it. Hopefully can practice up to a higher level of shooter to do it justice.

I've got 3 SKS's and 2 Mosin's

The Mosin kicks pretty hard when compared to the SKS. I couldn't pick a favorit though as they're both very different rifles.

Oddly enough, the triggers on my Mosins are a lot smoother and break more cleanly than on the SKS's.

There is a lot of hype about getting a hex (octagonal) receiver on a Mosin but don't by any means think the round receiver is not worthy of buying. I've got one of each and although the hex is prettier, the round seems to function a little smoother. Maybe it's just my particular rifles but the action is silky on the round receiver and seems to be more difficult to operate on the hex.

x2 on the 7.62x54r ammo issue - it's getting a lot more scarce to find surplus in this caliber than x39. Tradex is a good spot to look. I bought some from Martar befor and it actually came to about $375 shipping and taxes in to my home here in west Toronto.

hope this helps!

Not at this prices I know :)

Ammo I have enough in my stock. $309 plus shipping obviously who ever closer will be cheaper. If you in Toronto or Halifax I would choose Frontier. Marlin is closer to you and he will gladly ship it to you.
