Popped in to the SFRC this morning and picked up a Savage Stevens Model 300 Bolt Action 22LR. Happy once more with the service from that place.
Took it to my Dad's farm and started plinking away @ my auto reset target. To my astonishment I couldn't hit s**t. So I moved up 10 paces and still couldn't hit those lil metal bastards if my life depended on it! Frustrated, I grab a target out of my bag to see WTF is going on. Find out it's hitting high and right. In my noob ignorance I simply adjust my aim. HIT, HIT...
My Dad comes back in to the field to see the rifle and bring me a beer. I told him what was happening and he showed me how to adjust the sights. He changed the distance and tapped the front sight to the right. So now I can aim properly and hit... :p
I just added my Tasco scope a hour ago so next time I'm out to the farm I'll have my Dad show me how to zero it in. I'll eventually swap out the hunting camo sling for an all black one. I bought it for my Rem 870 but it's too short on it.

I also did a fun drill with my shotgun. I loaded 7 shot 2 then loaded two back in and shot 7 a few times. I also tried shooting 1 shell without ear protection... I now believe I know what a concussion grenade would be like... My ears were ringing and I felt a bit dazed. Not doing that again!

Bolt action .22 are great to shoot. Nice purchase.
A nice big piece of cardboard and a decent target will help greatly in your zeroing. If you are trying to shoot at a small target while performing the zero, you may not see totally where your rounds are hitting, and how to adjust. If you are hitting high and to the right, adjust accordingly down and to the left.

Congrats on a fine .22!

What ever happened to the broken 64 (mag-well issue)??

A generous fellow CGNer sent me a replacement, no charge. I cleaned and replaced the part. My Cooey is like the special kid in class... I can only load six rounds in to a mag or else it jams/fails to fire. And even then it fails to fire randomly. Some day when I have the time and patience Ill strip it down completely clean it and maybe it will perform better? Maybe even go as far as having a gun smith look at it. I see A LOT of them up for sale in the EE. I'll never get rid of it, It's sentimental.

You'll be happy with both of them!

I adore my 64s...(all of 'em!) You'll have to get used to completely tearing it down and thoroughly cleaning it every 500-1000rds. I only lube my 64 for storage/rust prevention. For use, leave the action dry. You'll get 500 rds of shootery before the 'ol FTF/FTE symptom.

You have the best of both worlds...spray n' play 64 and, accurate bolty. Dad's farm will be a gallery before you know it!
