There was some interest so I figgured I'd post a new thread with some pictures about the gun. I havent shot it yet, but that should change tomorrow morning. :D

The stock is VERY nice. Chinese MFG, all serial numbers are matching. Not sure about the flash hider pinned or threaded because I don't know what to look for. This was from MilArm and IIRC they have a few more. I paid 169 and it looks great. Any questions let me know. (BTW after these pictures I realized how badly my gun needed oil on the outside so thats been fixed, don't worry)

What factory markings are on the side? Any numbers in a triangle?

I tried to get a picture but my camera was being problematic.

Its got 9696 with a rectangular circle going around it as seen
misccodevi8.jpg
, then
china.jpg
then my SN which is 1,3**,*** therefore my gun was MFG in 1956 or before.

The year/serial formula works for most, but not all the PLA factories. As well, those carbines destined for military export or without the "56 Type" marking (people's militia, people's armed police etc.) will often fall out that range. Yours is a military issue carbine and marked "56 Type".

The spike bayonet dates from the 1965/66 period at the Jianshe factory ( /26\ ) which until the late 60s was the only arms plant producing the T56 carbine. The stamped gas tube and trigger guard will date from '67-'68 at /26\. Jianshe produced the T56 until 1970 and again in 1979-81. From 1969-70 until circa 1981-82, many dozens of factories produced the T56, mostly to the late pattern such as yours. The pinned barrel was pioneered by factory 0138 during the stamped receiver trials (which were abandoned) and adopted by several of the secondary factories. Oddly, there was apparantly no fixed pattern for SKS from the secondary factories and both threaded bbl and pinned bbl as well as milled and stamped parts show up depending on the factory. The blade bayonet was dropped as mentioned and not re-instated in later production.

Your carbine appears to have the pinned bbl.

Looks great. :)

Nothing wrong with a pinned barrel as long as it is in the proper press fit receiver, and not a threaded one, or vice verse.

It's not like you are going to change/unscrew your SKS barrel anyway, so a press fit, and pin will work fine.

Even though this does not apply to your rifle it is worth mentioning that for the record there is nothing wrong with non-bayoneted models as they shoot just great... mind you the cleaning rods can fall out from time to time. :D

Many of the non-bayoneted models came through the USA before the Norinco import ban.

Also before you take Her to the range spend a evening reading about how to take apart and clean them...also did she come with a cleaning kit in the buttstock?

thats very interesting there seems to be no vent holes on the gas tube wood
edit: my computer screen brightness was really low, i take that back... nice sks btw:p
did yours come clean of the comsoline stuff?

eos thanks for all the info buddy, very helpfull. It seems that it is pinned, I see a pin type hole with pin inside it at the base of the frontsight.

Calum I've taken it appart once when I got it to clean it up and hopefully the next time I do the trigger group will fit back into the stock easier than the first time. No cleaning kit in the but stock, oh well I'll go out and buy a small rod.

Prometheus it was covered in cosmoline. I spent about 2 hrs cleaning it up and then another 30 minutes trying to get it back together because the trigger assembly was giving me some issues.

Much thanks to the SKS Basics sticky, very helpfull and insightfull. To bad those videos linked are such low-res and you can't see anything. I just used the step by step guide with pictures on the MilSurp website.

Going to put 250 rounds through her tomorrow, hopefully she works well.

i bot 2 SKS before and both came with a cleaning kit in the butt, a oil bottle and sling so this lead me to believe all SKS came with the same, is this not true?

is there a possibility that milarms forgot to give you one. if i were you , i would give them a shout.

the cleaning kit cylinder container also double as a handle for the rod under the barrel.

Depends on the source. Lever Arms rebuild T56s came in individual boxes and had oil bottle, sling and kit. The presently available carbines seem to be coming from Bell Dist. These are shipped in the 20 carbine military crates and then re-packed by them. These are normally shipped with oil bottle, cleaning kit and gas port reamer. The last item was usually handed out on a squad basis and so is a nice bonus.

Makes me wonder if the dealer takes the toolkits out and tries to sell them seperately to make a couple extra bucks.

I doubt it, but I'll call MilArm tommorow and ask.

Gun shot very well today.

It was shooting high and right tho... I have to get the sight elevation adjustment on the top perfected (shooting 50 and 100) and get it all lined up properly. 260 rounds ran fine perfectly, hopefully I'll get another couple hundred down range on Saturday.

How so?
Yugos don't have chromed barrels. Also much of the after market stuff, and stocks out there will not work with them.
They like them in the USA as that is pretty much all they can get right now.

Yugo models are way better...

at a way higher price (50% higher) .

for the difference in price, i could replace the wood on my norc with a monte carlo and still have money left over to buy 200-300 rounds of ammo. :shotgun:

The mil-spec Type 56 carbine is every bit as well made as any European model and has the same level of accuracy (exept the Albanian types which can be hit and miss in terms of build quality).

Is the chrome bore really that much more superior ? I understand the corrosion factor, which does not really matter since everything else on the SKS is Not chromed so has to be cleaned right away after firing corrosive ammo anyway. Is there any other reasons that make a chrome bore better ?

Hi there, when I'm at the range to sight in the sks, I start at 25 yards. If I get it zeroed on 25yrd, it is dead on at the 200yrd gong... blew me away too. The bullet will be around 3"-6" high at 100 hundred yds.
The front sight barrel is staked in position. You should first drift it loose before trying to use the tool.
Make sure the rear sight is all the way down. Mine came on the battle notch which is more of a volley shot IIRC around 300yrds.
Hopefully that will speed up some of the things that slowed me down
