Shooting the SKS, it goes bang then click. I realize that the bolt did not fully engage and it feels sloppy. It picked up a new cartridhe and chanbered it but did not lock up.

Disassembled it and the recoil spring has no squiggle. Looks like the spring snapped at the end and I don't see a way to compress it and hook it back up. Hopefully I can get the whole spring assembly to replace it.

This thread is more for curiosity than anything else, as the fix is clearly to just replace the part. Anyone have this happen to them?

Can't post pics from my phone but I could email them to someone to post if they want.

But basically all SKS springs have a squiggle in them. This one has straightened out. :)

20 000 seems like a lot but it still shoots under 3" at 100m so the barrel is okay. The receiver on an SKS seems pretty sturdy and I haven't heard of them cracking. The rest of the parts are replaceable. It's good for another 20k, I guess! :)

The chrome lined military barrels will usually last longer than most owners' interest in shooting the rifle.

I would keep the Russian plunger and guide and just replace the spring itself. The Russian parts are a little better made than the Chinese ones, though both will work.

I have to agree with you on the Russian parts are a little better made.

Lever sells the whole spring assembly, it's Chinese.

The whole rifle is Chinese and it's lasted this long so I am not worried about using Chinese parts! :)

Pretty good for a $75 rifle! :)

Which SKS rifles don't have the chrome lined barrels? This one does, Most of the Russian ones do too., IIRC?

At $150.00 (average cost) for 1000 rounds of 7.62X39 = $3000.00 worth of ammo.
At $200.00 it works out to $4000.00

Thinking you got your moneys worth out of the spring :)
