Hi guys,
I tought I'd post my rifle to share some ideas:
Just forgot to mount my cheek-rest (30$ from Canada ammo) before the picture.
For me the Specter DR on B&T rail and cheek-riser is a perfect setup.
The bayonet is the real thing, 20$ from TradeEx surplus.
As you understood, I sent my furniture to Cobra Imaging. Here's my review:
Customer service: Perfect! Trevor always replied quickly and clearly. Step by step he explained me everything and was very cautious to my requirement and expectations. He updated me at every step of the job.
Took less than a month from me shipping to me receiving.
Price: A few hundred dollars, seems to be the price for water transfer imaging. Gives some discount to CGNers.
Work: It's a long process. Material analysis, surface cleaning, masking required areas, primer, base coat, paint (dipping), epoxy cover...
Pretty nice job. Masking job was done carefully.
Durability: I was warned paint add a little thickness and I didn't sand anything to compensate. Accordingly the folder latch chipped under the pressure (only the hidden mechanism). There's also two small paint chip where the bipod tips press on the rear of the handguard.
Paint is tough to pressure but seems a bit weak to scratch. It will resist safe kiss, passing trought branches and thick bush or droping your rifle case. It will not resist sliding on a rock or pavement.
In other word, I find this paint job gives it a show room look. After some use and abuse, the paint won't look show room anymore but will still provide functional camouflage.
Some surfaces certainly give better durability than Swiss plastic.
I consider this finish can't replace parkerize, cerakote or duracoat but will add beauty and a serious custom look to it.
