I started with a run of the mill low-wall round receiver 1937 Mosin, and turned it into this. I haven't shot it yet, but I'm hopeful I can change that in the week ahead with the nice weather we're having.

Don't tell anybody I said this, but that looks quite good! The end of the barrel being flush with the cap that way reminds me of something?
Great job on the crown. How did you do the counter bore? That Wood does not look like birch, more like oak.

The pics don't quite do it justice as the lighting was pretty crap.

The tip of the barrel being flush with the nose caps looks pretty bada$$.

A range report will follow on Wednesday when I get it out.

Really cool looking carbine, the muzzle flash
is gonna be huge! Why is the red dot mounted
on the base 1/2 way?

The red dot is fully on the rail. You can't see it but the rail extends back over the chamber area. It was a 5 dollar dovetail to weaver adapter I got from China on Amazon canada.

I cut the rifle down with a hack saw, cleaned it up with an angle gender, then emery cloth, and then about 30 minutes with a brass screw in a high speed drill with some rubbing compound.

I watched one of those midway USA how to vids on cutting down a barrel, and it really turned out well.

This is less than 1/2 the cost of an m38 with more cool factor given its all custom. If it shoots well I'll throw a scout scope on.

Now, now. It is his rifle and he can do anything he wants with it. I just hope he doesn't shoot it without cleaning all the grit from the angle grinder and the lapping compound from the bore! After all Lee Enfields and Garands are a dime a dozen.

The end of the barrel looks like it has been circumcised. Look down, way down.

I like it! Pretty cool looking. I bought a target crowning tool from Brownells with a .311 brass guide to clean up a couple of my 7.62 rifles. It works great and takes all the required skill out of chopping and crowning a barrel.

I have a similar mount on one of my Mosins. I couldn't get it to hold on for a whole day at the range until I drilled a little dimple in the barrel for the set screw to recess into.

I also added longer bolts and locking nuts before I drilled a little dent in the barrel. I didn't want to have to permanently change the rifle if I didn't have to. Even with all this I still needed to get that set screw down into the barrel just 1 mm.

Just a heads up. That 54r round kicks like a mule, especially when you lighten the Mosin by shortening it.

I like it. I'm planning on doing the same thing to the better shooter of my 2 91/30's. They are both war models and I hear the dovetail is tapered so I'm not sure how I'm gonna deal with that yet.
