My Take On a Cut Down Mosin - Range Report on pg 5

Bull####, I crowned mine with countersink bit in a cordless and it shoots 3 rds in 1 1/2"@100M. Yes, I have the target downstairs. With Lapua brass reloads mind you.

I didn't do anything to mine ,10 rounds in 6 " at 500 .Original un-refurbished 1941 Izhevsk sniper rifle.

Well, it looks like my hacksaw cut, angle grinder clean up, and lapping compound crowning job worked better than expected. I put an NC Star fixed 2.5 power scope (courtesy of Tradex) and shot very consistent MOA groups. Here's a shot of one of the targets with the closest points measuring about 1/2 an inch at 100 yards. This was with Hornady match commercial ammo.

The "bubba" shortening job worked like a charm. Here's a pic of one of the targets with 2 shots almost overlapping each other on the left. I LOVE this Mosin.... and yes it throws fireballs now too!

I think it's a 3 shot group with two rounds touching? No? OP please clarify. Also leave the poor man alone guys. He is happy with the job he has successfully completed and has to show the world because the wife doesn't care. I know how you feel and kudos to you sir for making the rifle your own and having it meet your needs.
If people listened to all the purist and gave two ####s then we wouldn't have innovation, we wouldn't have improvement and progress.
Bravo!
PS I think it looks awesome

3 Shot group.

The wife couldn't give a $&%#, however this was mainly posted in response to the nay-sayers who don't believe a rifle can be properly cut and crowned with hand tools.

This old 1937 war horse just got a new lease on life.

I started with a run of the mill low-wall round receiver 1937 Mosin, and turned it into this. I haven't shot it yet, but I'm hopeful I can change that in the week ahead with the nice weather we're having.

Sweet crown job!

The hack-saw you took to the barrel and the red dot you put on a Mosin really speaks to the fine craftsmanship and good taste that any aspiring firearms owner would be proud of.

Thx Ty. All I ever wanted was your judgement, and subsequent approval. Yay.

Looking great.

A tip for getting a saw cut nearly perfect is to put a small hose clamp tightly on your barrel then cut up close to it. It cuts down on file work after.
