Finally got my stainless PT1911.:cool: Took exactly a months from the time I ordered to the time I got it. But but I waited a lot longer for this gun to show up in Canada...

Haven't had a chance it to shoot it yet (planing to go either Fri or Sat). But so far I like it! Here is a pre-range report and specs;

Stainless steel forged frame, slide and barrel!
Ambi thumb safety
Heinie Straight 8 sights (drift adjustable)
Front strap checkering
5in barrel of course
Weight - 40oz

The gun came in a padded plastic case, two 8 round mags, bore brush, taurus safety keys, and a user manual. Unlike the Raging Bull I bought a few years ago PT1911 was covered with grease that smelled like the crap my Norino came covered with only there wasn't as much if it so didn't stick as bad. It also appeared to be factory fired judging by the residue on the breechface, barrel and other places. After I cleaned it up I was looking at one great looking pistol. :) Here's a pic I snapped last night;

I was planing to replace the stock plastic grips with Alumagrips but I like how the stock grips are contoured to be more ergonomic; they are thinner around the grip safety area so it's easier get your hand around it. I might just keep 'em...

One thing I don't like is that the mags are blued, but knowing that before I ordered I bought a stainless magazine as well. Another I'm not crazy about is the grip checkering - I prefer smooth grips, but it's not uncomfortable and it does look nice.

Can't comment on the sights at this point, will have to wait till after I hit the range.

Btw this is my first 1911 (but not a first .45) and I guess I'm so spoiled by the ease of disassembly of modern semi-autos that to me it was a PITA to field strip it and put it back together. Guns sure have evolved in that department in the last 97 years.

Oh Man... :)

Lucky stiff. That is Sweet. I would buy one of those in a heartbeat.

Let us know where you ordered it from and price if possible.

Get out and shoot it. It looks great!!! :)

You can have any gunstore order one for you. When I called FN sports a months ago they had 15 of them in stock (not sure if that's just stainless or SS and blued total). One of those 15 is now mine... :)

Wholesale had them for $899, P&D had one for $850, I heard some place near Ottawa had one for $830. Blued one is less...

Your Taurus 1911 looks nice. It will be interesting to read a range report.

Just be carefull on reassembly you don't want to put the "noobie scratch" on the frame with the slide stop... :eek:

Update!

Well finally had a chance to try out my new 1911; :) stopped at the range on my way home from work...

With ammo prices these days I won’t be feeding it any factory ammo so I brought some reloads with me; 7.5gr Power Pistol , 8gr of IMR SR4756 and some of the light (underloaded) 7gr of N350 all behind a 200gr plated bullet. Shot about 80-90 rounds, not a lot but I had 2 other guns with me..

Power Pistol load was the most powerful load and delivered the fireball. If someone is looking for a fun/powerful .45 load, try it! I have to say my stainless P220 is a softer shooting gun; you can really feel the WALLOP of a hot .45ACP shooting a 1911.:cool: I guess the rubber grip on the Sig tames it down a bit…

There were NO feeding or extraction issues but I had a few annoying light strikes. Not a huge deal IMO; I’m guessing the firing in channel might be dirty (considering how the gun was dirty from the factory), worst case scenario I’ll buy a lighter firing pin spring. Btw all rounds fired on a second strike...

Trigger: after the range session the trigger seemed to improve! It was quite decent to being with but it’s even better now!

Sights: the sight picture is good but I’m not used to the ligning up dots vertically; I had some shots hitting low. I’ll try to cover the dot on the rear sight and see if it will make any difference.

Only thing I will likely change are the grips; checkered plastic is just not my thing.... Took a bunck of pics with my digital Cammera might most a couuple latter if I'll have the time...

PS: Taurus 1911 is now Clark approved for the .460 Rowland conversion:shotgun:

After the few comments that I have read on here about the Taurus service, I would be very reluctant to buy one.

LOL...Thats funny.

The only thing I have ever read about Taurus Service is people #####ing about what they HEARD about Taurus Service....Hahahahaha
Never read a post with someone complaining about bad service they received.....always 'They Heard'............

Good ole' Internet

-----------update!-----------

In my review I mentioned that I has some light strikes. Someone suggested that it could be the ammo; if the primers are seated high that would happen. Well, I checked the rest of the ammo and sure enough found a few high primers :redface: I primed that batch with Auto Prime hand tool and must've been too careful with it.... So you know what that means; I cleaned the firing pin channel for nothing :rolleyes: so IT WAS NOT THE GUNS' FAULT! :) First strike seated the primer deaper in the primer pocket and second strike fired it.

I got the same exact gun today. I took a little time to clean it and feed it reminington 230 gr fmj without an issue. This is my 12th? or so 45 and i am going to compare to my colt, para, and sig gsr later. But for $850, I would say it was a good deal.

That's likely because no one in Canada has actually received service from Taurus ;). But with a 1911, this is not really a concern as there's a crapload of spare parts out there.
