I went to Normandy in 2008 with my wife. It was something that i felt I should do as a Canadian. I was only there for a day and a half as we were continuing on to Belgium. Next time it will be for longer. as there is still so much to see. We visited Juno and Omaha beaches and a German battery above Sword beach. We also visited the Canadian Cemetery in Beny Sur Mer. It something that i cant put to words. I just want to say to All of you who are serving or have served...Thank you for your Sacrifices!!.

Here are some pics of my trip. I hope you enjoy them

A famous DD tank in Courseulle Sur Mer. Which served as the only memorial to Juno beach until the new one was built.

Very cool, I was there in August of 2008. Came across from Portsmouth on the ferrie. It was exciting to see the coastline getting closer and closer. I timed my trip in that I was the exact same age as my grandpa when he landed on Juno Beach. We stayed in Cean for a week, and ventured out during the days. I got lucky and found a great book at the Juno beach centre which helped me locate Hill 168 where his war was ended by an 88 from a tank. I am really itching to go back. Thanks for the pics.

Great Pics!

I'm going to Juno next year, but I had a friend that went last year and I had him pick a rock from the beach up for me. I gave it to my dad and it now sits in his windowsill with a poppy in it (it's a really cool circular rock).

Was there twice in past with 2009 ( 65th anniv.) being the most recent.

Lots of great pics and memories.

Also visited allies, canadian and german cemitaries. Very taking when you start looking at the plaques and the so young age of too many of these guys responding to their call of duty.

Juno was of course a must, as I had promised, to one of our extended family member, that I would go there and bring pics back.
He was on Juno beach on D-day. He died in vet hosp early Jan. this year.

Had also a great tour of the Bastogne town and memorial as well.

Met and really enjoyed meeting with an old british tankist that was still making the pilgrimage with his wife.

Wish to go again in near future. Still very moving to look at this huge History drama and land so heavily blooded.

Caen and Juno museums are great places to bring back books and albums almost impossible to get elsewhere.

Time and elements are taking their toll every year on these war relics.
Case in point, at arromanches, the Mulberry floating harbour are almost gone.

Omaha Beach cemetary at Colleville-sur-mer is really something to visit too.

Almost as taking as Arlington... for those who've been there too.
