Thought I'd share with you guys my new to me long range rig. I haven't had the Chance to shoot it yet but I'm hoping to get out Tuesday.
Remington 700aac-sd 20" in .308 1/10
the action is really smooth. I know people have complained about them the last little bit but I have no issues at all with it
Timney 510 trigger plus I have a trigger tech trigger on the way to compare
Nightforce 20moa rail
vortex viper hst 6-24x55 set is burris signature zee rings
Blackhawk cheek riser
and a 308 mikulek brake on the way



Pretty excited to see how it all performs. I have a bunch of brass I've been collecting and have dies on the way. Looking forward to another rifle to feed.

I'm thinking 168 smk's over varget will do the job. Feel free to pass on any pet loads you may have.

Anyone on van island I'll be at vic fish and game Tuesday if you want to meet up to shoot

Nice compact shooter you have there! I have a short barrelled 308 coming soon too and I am curious to see how it handles the long range targets. I would be interested to hear how you make out.
 
Thanks guys. I'm stoked to get out there. I'll have to blast through some factory ammo until the dies and stuff arrive.
With the 1/10 will it be fine with 150gr or should I go heavier? For the time being I'll just be shooting out to 250yds or so max
 
When it comes to bullet choice I first consider the cartridge then look for the highest BC with the lowest weight for my barrel twist. It becomes instinctive, now I pretty much build rifles around a bullet cartridge combinations.

The 30 caliber has so many bullet choices I can understand how it would be hard to know where to start. In my personal opinion, I would choose the 155gr to 178gr range for the 308. From berger I would try the 155gr hybrid, 168gr hybrid, 175gr vld and for cheaper options I would try the 155gr Amax, 168gr Amax, 178gr Amax or 178gr match. If I was to narrow it down without having to test everything I would start with Bergers' 168gr hybrid and Hornady's 178gr match. Pre-hybrid days I had great success with 155 berger vld's in my .308.

Congrats. I've got the same model rifle as you. They're nice shooters. First tip I'd give you is to bed or shim that Hogue stock. Out of the box, on a benchrest, the stock will flex and make contact with the barrel and throw your groups, with a bipod it's even worse.
 
Trinimon has given very good advice. I'd actually say loose the stock - get a HS P take off from a R5 or 700P or buy yourself a nice Bell and Carlson and you will be much, much happier.
 
Well got to go to the range yesterday and shoot my new rifle. I shot it on its original configuration but with the xmp trigger installed since I sold the T510 that was installed.

I was shooting federal 149gr fmj ball ammo since it was the cheapest stuff I could get my hands on. I sighted it in at 25 then out to 100. Accuracy was meh. Would have 2 shots touching then a third would be randomly over the target bout 1-1.5" apart.
I loaded up 5 rounds each of 168smk's with varget from 43-45.5gr that I'll be ladder testing note that my build is complete.

Added a used HS precision stock installed the trigger tech trigger and the mikulek compensator. What a difference this stock makes! Fully free floated to the receiver now i just need to bed the action.

The trigger tech trigger is fantastic. Backed it off to its lightest setting then up 2 clicks for reassurance. It feels great only faults I can see over the timney I had is the narrower trigger blade and there is a different feeling vibration that resonates from it when pulled but the break is like glass with no over travel.

 
I guess you answered your own question, but ya, ~150gr el-cheapo ammo groups like 00 buck. 168+ developed handloads is where it's at with a 1/10. Nice minimal camo job on that stock too
