my wife asked me why at my age do i hunt alone??, so my question is why do others hun

So very true.

I had several instances when guys talked a big game and then dropped out when it was time to pull out the wallet. One guy, one of those types who cannot say "No" to overtime under any circumstances, pulled out after I had booked a caribou hunt for the two of us. Fortunately for me, the outfitter in Quebec was good enough to let me use the deposit I had placed for the two of us entirely towards my trip as a single hunter. I was partnered up to share a cabin with a couple of other guys travelling and hunting alone. It all worked out great, we got along wonderfully and we all had a great hunt.

That was the last time I ever bothered to try to get a partner to go on a hunt with me. Every trip I've gone on since then, whether flying or driving, I did solo. I was the best hunting partner I ever had! :)
It is much easier that way, no compromises, you get exactly what you want on your own time table. I enjoy certain types of hunts with friends, but when I get really serious, I prefer to go it alone and hunt hard. I am doing two hunts next year alone, and prefer these ones that way.

I find in life most things people try to make it competitive. I find hunting relaxing a time to recharge my batteries. Actually being present without distractions from other people or things like phones. Don’t get me wrong. I do enjoy going with others, but we usually split up and go out on our own.

Hunting alone is the ultimate adventure. It's completely different experience than with a partner. My solo trips have made me such a more confident hunter. Although, I do most of my hunting with my Dad and wouldn't trade those memories for all the scotch in Scotland.

No longer friends with my best friend of 30 yrs, considered him a brother. He was the only person I 100%trusted to hunt with and I guided duck hunters for 20+years. Didn't count 2 years at Bradley farms a commercial outfit on lk st clair, guided everyday of the season for 2 years in the early 90s, so I've seen lots of hinter/"sportsmen". I hunt alone for the peace. I hunt alone because I dont like drama at 56 yrs old and I hunt alone because Ive been around jealous hunters who couldn't be happy for anothers success if you paid them. Maybe someday ill find someone to hunt with but if not ill be ok.
All that being said if do miss and love my best friend,I just dont like him. Wish things could be different

Well spent the first few days of elk hunting season alone on a solo hunt.

Next trip is with my best friend, my wife. One week in moose camp. Then a quick trip with my youngest daughter for her doe draw tag, then another solo week long moose hunt. As the kids get older and are busy life, or furthering their education, or off working I can spend more time with the wife hunting, or solo hunting. Have not had the time I have wanted in hunting with the wife, and now slowly getting to that point where we can hunt together, when our holiday schedules align. She has to book holidays Jan for the year, and I get to book 3-4 weeks in advance, so it is hard to align at times.

When you down a large animal like moose or elk, it is a 3-4 hour ordeal to 1/4 and remove the usable meat, bag and start the exit to camp plan. But sooo worth it when you sit down and eat the provided meat.

I will continue to do this as health provides.
