My wifes Israeli k98

Nice. BTW, I've never seen the hood on an Israeli Mauser, I don't believe they used them. Mine was the same, as was two others I've handled. Ex-czech rifles, no hoods, re-wood on many, burned 7.62 in stock, star of David stamped, 7.62 stamped over dirty bird, mirror bores (not a lot of moisture in the desert!)

Yes they had sight hoods, what they did not have was cleaning rods. Later produced stock were not even drilled for them.

I think the fact that they are riveted on pretty rules them out being available. Anyone who took it off theirs probably didn't want it on anyway and tossed it.

Take it to a good smith. If they sights are canted right it might just need a slight tweak with an action wrench. It they were to the left that is harder to fix.

I have a couple of Israeli Mauser's, both have sight hoods installed. The Israeli style sight hood is riveted in place with holes drilled in them to allow the drifting of the front sight blade. "Ironers" what is year and manufacturer stamps on the receiver of your gun?

Ok I finally had a chance to take it apart and it looks like the sight issue is with the leaf sight. The sight base is correctly alinged but the leaf sight is sitting way to the right.
