My Yugo "Tandzara" M98 U.S. import gamble

A couple months ago I was on a "Tandzara" frenzy. After learning about the ceased Zrak imports, I was on a mission to find the parts to make a Bosnian sniper. Which I found to quite rare these days as most are not willing to give them up. But I did find a complete rifle down in Florida which was priced a bit high. It was all milled and all forced matching numbers M98 complete with Zrak mounts and '84 dated M76B scope. The seller advertised it as a "bring-back", which I am still skeptical about. The interesting thing is that it does not have any import marks. None! Which is odd for a rifle imported into the U.S. So I went for it, and it arrived yesterday.

The bore is shiny with no visual pitting or frosting, there is some minor copper fouling. I will need to take a better look at the rifling, looks good in my lack of gunsmith eyes. My only concern is the muzzle which looks and feels a bit rough. The seller did shoot Yugo M75 surplus ammo through it, which is corrosive and neglected to clean that particular area. Will be going to a gunsmith... if I can find one around here.

Also, anyone want to trade a Yugo M48 sling for a repo K98 sling?

Gorgeous, the both of them!

The lack of import markings lends credence to the bring-back story, IMO. A GI possibly stashed it on his way home and just kept quiet about it. If so good for him, though its strange he would part with it.

So out with it, exactly how high was a bit high? Who did the import for you?

The seller was not the GI in question. The story goes, the seller worked with said GI, and bought it from him after said GI's divorce. The seller was Bosnian believe it or not. My source of skepticism stems from the repo k98 sling, it should have a post-war m48 brass button style sling. Also the receiver has an odd finish to it and the crest is missing on the top. I know some YC k98s are missing the crest, but the receiver finish seems a bit off. Almost parkerized in appearance. I will be giving it a closer look eventually.

Prophet River imported it for me. Excellent guys to deal with. Just the wait was a killer.

As for the price... how much do you think I payed?
