Mystery 20ga Slugs?

I inherited most of a box of mystery ammo from my ex-FIL a while ago and figured I would see what the CGN collective thinks. The conventional shotgun cartridge on the right is labelled Eley 20ga 'Grand Prix" with #2 shot. The others have no marking at all, but the base does match the dimensions of the Eley shell. I don't have a 20ga shotgun to test if they chamber or not.

Any ideas on the slug loads?

I’m not particularly familiar with the 577 so not discounting that possibility. I would suggest they could be a slug load for a paradox gun. Profile looks similar to others I’ve seen.

Thanks for that. It is entirely bizarre that he would have had anything as old and esoteric as .577 Snider. He was just a fudd hunter who had a couple shotguns and a sportered Enfield No.4 as his hunting tools. He wasn't a gun guy to speak of at all.

I've consolidated a couple of households into ours as family members age and pass, I will have to think about where these came from and maybe see if he remembers these in his stash of stuff that he passed onto me.

Well, I certainly have nothing to shoot them in, so they will sit until I figure out their provenance and then maybe sell them if there is no family significance to them.

I have done a bit of reading and these are definitely .577 Snider rounds. They match dimensionally and have the the thin rolled brass cartridge body under the glued on paper wrap.

What would have been the common rifles this was used in on this side of the Atlantic? I am going to check with the ex-FIL to see if there was an old converted musket or similar in the family that he knows of, but it would help if I had an idea of what I was asking for/about.

Snider enfields were and are still common here. Lots were sold as surplus here sometime in the late 1800’s early 1900’s and used by many. The foil/paper wrapped cartridges are military surplus . The rounds especially loose are fairly common usually see them at gun shows.
