I picked up some new toys this year, including a Mystery Ranch NICE frame and 6500 bag. I attached a Kifaru universal gunbearer to the hip belt and shoulder strap.

Both products work great. The pack is very comfy even wiht heavy weights, and the gunbearer is fantastic. You can crawl around under blowdown, crawl up rocks, use both hands...without ever losing your rifle, or having it get in the way.

I've been trying out this gear and doing a little hiking to stay in shape for hunting season.

Here is a little day trip I made yesterday, hiked up a popular area around here called Tenquille Lake.

I think the Mystery Ranch is the best serious backpack on the market today. The Kifaru and Eberlestock are close seconds but for serious extended trips and loads over 100 pounds I'm not sure you can do better than the Mystery Ranch. You'll love it Gate!

Beautiful Tenquille Lake... I was kicking myself for forgetting the fishing rod!

Order direct.

I've had up to 70 lbs so far. The pack as in the pic is about 50 plus rifle. I carried alot of crap I didn't need, just for the trip. Pack is very comfy, even wiht heavy weights. It's more comfy than my BULL PACK, and it conforms to the body much better. It really does give you the best of internal/external combined.

Hope to stick about 120lbs in it, in a few weeks time.;)

Very nice. Looking forward to those pics! The one I borrowed from Davey has been great (not the MR). I have only packed up to 70 in it. Stays quite comfortable with only my legs and lungs holding me back.

I hope to get my MR pack next year. Unless there is no taxidermy bill after sheep season this year, then it might get fast tracked.

Is there a built in rain cover?

Nice pictures. I want to move to the Yukon but am stuck in Petawawa guarding lockers. "But we're getting paid." is the typical response but I'd rather be poor and live in a beautiful environment.

People get paid all over the country. I coudln't be paid enough, if I had to live in a ####hole. ;)

Great pic's GH they show why I love BC so much...

I need to get back out hiking I have a 16 month old son and I have been taking the last 2 weeks of June and most of July off from prospecting to hang out with him and to do a bit of fishing.

Think I'll head out next week though.

Anyway were are you guys buying these Kifaru Gunbearers I'd like to give one a try.

Love my Mystery Ranch.......and have a Gunbearer on it as well.....

I'm actually ordering a Load-Sling from them to go along with the pack for some of the hunting I do for loading quarters, etc.....

Has anyone used one of the "Wilderness Wanderer" packs manufactured in Kamloops, BC?

I would be curious to know how they compare to the Mystery Ranch.

I have heard good things about both of these.

Thanks

I have the Wilderness Wanderer it is fantastic can't compare them for you though never seen a Mystery Ranch pack.

I've never seen the MysteryRanch pack, but from your pictures it looks like a nice system.

I have the eberlestock gunslinger, and I chose it primarily because it enables a person to carry an short rifle totally discretely leaving both hands free, as well as being a good pack.

The major gripe I have with it is that the "hydration sleeves" inside the pack don't fit any system I have seen - they are very narrow.

I've never used a WW pack, so take this for what it's worth-

I have spoken to a number of guys I trust, who have used WW packs, and they say they are good packs, but MR are better

I have checked out WW packs via pictures and I think the MR is a better design. (from pics)

Bottom line is that I like good gear. I research it a bit, mostly looking for personal accounts. When I was looking for a big ass pack that would haul heavy loads (moose) I got a Bull Pac. Great pack, strong as hell, but less versatile. When i wanted a long range backpack capable of heavy loads, I looked at Kifaru, MR, WW and Eberlestock J107, and the MR came out on top.

This pack appears bombproof. I'm satisfied, for now.

If I was looking for a lower price 1-2-3 day pack, I'd look at the Eberlestock packs. My buddy has one and it's a great and lesser cost option for someone who is hunitng closer to home/truck.
