hey i want to hear from some of you guys that have the Mystic Precision M-Pod. Im thinking about getting one.

Do they work well off the bench as well as prone?

Do they fit into the Savage rail? (model 12 f/tr)

Easy to adjust height?

how do you like it?

Was it worth the extra $$ over a Haris?

I have only been using mine for a few months now, but let's see if I can help you out at all.

-I generally shoot off a bench, but have shot prone with the MPOD. Both work fine.

-No idea about the savage, but it fits my tikka sporter just fine.

-Easy height adjustment, I would say, is one of the few drawbacks to the MPOD. It's similar to a non-notched Harris in that you have to loosen a screw, slide the leg to the desired length, and then re-tighten. It does make matching up to a rear bag/target take a bit more time. I wish there was a way to make course adjustments with a ratchet or wheel, but that would add weight. Remember, this thing is LIGHT and surprisingly rigid given its weight. I have experienced no flexing at all.

-Once set up, its shoot extremely well. When I shoot from a bench, I put a piece of carpet under it so that the bipod slides freely under recoil. On grass, it slides like butter. Bottom line is I like it. As said, ease of adjustment isn't perfect, but is entirely useable and a non-issue once set up on a target. I like mine and would buy it again.

-I much prefer mine to my Harris knotched leg/swivel. Obviously the MPOD doesn't fold, but that generally isn't a concern for the type of shooting being done with the MPOD. You also don't get any bounce when the rifle recoils with the MPOD, which was the main reason I switched from a Harris to a ski-type bipod with the MPOD.

It's not a perfect bipod, but it's pretty darn good.

thanks stephen thats exactly the kind of info i was looking for, I thought it looked like it would be a little awkward to setup the height. and or get the legs even. but once you have it setup and on target im sure it works great.

my main concern is that its stable and ill be able to shoot well with it off the bench and prone

thanks also to tomochan good bipod review

For what you want it for it will do great. My only knock on it would be that getting the rifle level takes longer than with a swivel type bipod. That said I've only used mine on very uneven surfaces. It is rock solid. For strictly bench / prone shooting you cant do wrong.

Im looking at buying one also. I was concerned about the height adjustments being difficult, especially if you shoot off a bench and the ideal height of the pod isnt at full extension or fully collapse. Youd have to find the right height each time. Then i though, why not mark the legs so you can see when they are at the same height each outing. Thats my plan when I can save up enough to buy one.

As noted very well by the preceding contributors:
- A little more fiddly, but allows precise, independent adjustment of each leg's length.
- Rock solid.....well made....Easy to recommend.

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Yes, it is being well received and getting good positive feedbacks.

Marking the legs is a great way to get close on a common range. I do that myself. However, you learn to get close from useage. Like the harris, you just figure out a good height to start with and then the next adjustment is pretty simple. Like any tool, practise makes things easier.

we are working on a cant feature and this will be easy to retrofit for anyone with existing units. no ETA as we just started thinking up a design (match season just ended)

The goal is to add less then 1 oz for this change.

As with anything, it is a compromise with weight AND rigidity being primary goals. This it has met with flying colours.

We also can offer 3 plate sizes to fit a wide range of stocks. The reg MPOD is for forends 2.5" wide - pretty much all the factory varmint, tactical and most F TR stocks use this.

The WIDE is for 3" wide forends which allows F OPEN and BR style stocks to use it.

Finally, the SPORTER which is for 1.5" forends. This covers the LR hunting, varmint hunter that want a stable field rest that is easily portable.

Got a few left on this batch so let me know. another batch is in the works for Dec.

TIP: The MPOD is designed to slide during recoil. If shooting from gravel, rock or sand (any surface where the feet can sink and dig in), you need to put a carpeted piece of plywood between the feet and ground. This cures all the hopping and vertical stringing. A piece of carpet on a concrete bench is ideal.

Thanks

Jerry

Shot this earlier today at 300m using the load and rifle I shot in Raton, NM for the US Nationals. Pulled 4th shot low to see if group was forming due to scope or me. Didn't bother to adjust scope as the group was forming nicely. The MPOD will let you do some very nice shooting.

Great to hear about a swivel attachment in the works Jerry. I will be looking for one as soon as you have it ready to go. Also I never thought about the carpet, I'll be sure to try that next time out.
