N04 handguard bands

Can someone tell me how to install the middle handguard band on my no4 mk1, mine seems to be to small and does not fit around the forestock and rear handguard, I'm stumped.
 
Handguards

Its a long branch No4 Mk1 but the forestock is a Ishapore replacement to get all the wood back on.
 
I have found that the unissued Pakistani guards are 1/16" too tall to fit properly without being sanded down where they contact the stock. Compare them to some brit wood & you will see what I mean. If thats not the problem, see if you can compare your wood to a complete rifle & identify what need to be trimmed. Go slowly when you start removing wood, I have seen too much wood reduced to kindling by folks who went ape with a dremel.
 
It's kind of safer to make the wood parts too large; you will then have remove only what you need to have a perfect, tight fit. If they made the forend too "precise" you would risk having a loose band once in a while.
