I have no magazine for this rifle. Can anyone tell me where to find one, or if there is some other mag that will work in this mag well? Anyone ever modify this rifle's well to take a different mag?

I hate to be the one to disappoint you but mags for the old NAACO .22s are literally non existent.

I had an identical rifle and one day while out in the field the base plate went flying off with the spring and follower never to be seen again. I hunted for years at gun shows, online retailers and old parts companies and never found a single piece.

Numrich as a few odd bits and pieces for these guns but no mags or mag parts.

I also tried many other brands of .22 mags but never found one that would fit and function. I eventually gave up and sold the gun without the mag.

Perhaps someone wiser than myself will chime in with a solution. There must be another mag out there that could be modified to fit but I'll be damned if I could find it.

Knowing what others like prarieguy have experienced I didn't even bother looking around when I found myself in the same situation.

I had a magazine kicking around that I decided to use. Exactly what it was from, I don't know, but it was very similar to the mag from a Lakefield mk2 but just shy of being interchangeable with it.
I had to move the mag position rearward to work in the NAACO. This requires lengthening the slot in the floorplate and making a new guide and latch. I just made a whole new floorplate because I didn't want to alter the original.
The original floorplate had a brazed-in filler in the aft part of the mag slot. As well, there were 2 locating cuts in the bottom of the receiver that would be anchor points for the rear foot of the mag guide. My feeling is that it was done this way to perhaps accommodate a 22 magnum version .
Although the cuts allow for different positioning of the mag guide, the screw hole position in the guide is unique to the particular version of the guide.

I made a new guide and spring. My conversion works reliably but was a pain of a job. I did it for the fun of it. Be prepared for a whole lot of tinkering, remaking of parts, testing etc, etc. There was cutting, forging, fitting, and heat treatment involved.
Positioning and geometry is important and you have to sneak up on it, which takes time
In a previous discussion on this forum it was mentioned that others have done this type of work as well. There's more than one way to skin a cat but it is ultimately up to the individual to decide whether such work is worth doing.

What your looking for is a mag to fit a Globe Firearms (NAACO) model 20. Search the net and you'll find pics of it so that you can identify it by sight. These mags are old enough that some shops may have them laying around and not know what they are for.

The mag sidewalls are folded back behind the back edge of the mag to form a sort of rectangular box shape, which fits over the rectangular strip of metal just forward of the mag catch in your picture. The bottom ledge of those folded back edges are what the mag catch latches to so the mag doesn't fall out.

I believe certain models of Marlin & H&R Bolt action .22's used a similar mag.

I wonder iff’in les garcon with the special chappeau noire has one?
Maybe send gunrunner100 a pm?
Gunshows are a happen’in again ans with some keen eyes one may be discovered.
