Just back from a trip south, and as usual found something I hadn't seen before.
The National Museum Military of Vehicles (https ://nmmv.org/), of Dubois Wyoming is a newer venue housing a firearms and military vehicle collection, and one that stands out at that.
It is located in the middle of nowhere, 3 hours from Cody or Casper, or 2 from Jackson Hole, or 2 hours from Thermopolis. I posted years ago about the gun collection at the Cody Museum, including the archived collection in the basement, so skipped stopping in this time, but rearranged my trip to do NMMV, as in winter it is not open on Mondays/Tuesdays.
The museum is genuinely in the middle of nothing, not far from Crowhart Butte, and you come upon it pretty quickly. It is a high class facility, dont let the outside cluster of vehicles fool you, the inside is immaculate, air conditioned, well spaced, easy to access with ramps, benches about every 50ft, and ample bathrooms throughout. It also has a second building with a well touted canteen, which I would have tried, but which the tour group going through beat me to. There is a small gift shop as well, and several 'theaters' for viewing videos etc. Entrance fee is 20$, seniors and veterans get in free.
The inside collection is immaculate, nicely laid out, and has items on display you just dont see in most museums, like landing craft, searchlights etc. It also houses a small artillery collection, and naval collection with torpedos, mines and naval guns etc. The gun collection in the 'Vault' is interesting in that there is one of each model of Winchester, then a collection of military small arms. All guns in the vault collection are also operable.
For the serious enthusiast I would suggest the Cody museum, and NMMV as a days outing.
