As discussed in the Yukon thread and the earlier BC thread, we see that more and more bands are trying to impose their own laws and jurisdiction.

“We have been left with no alternative but to close our territory to the moose hunt,” said chief Betty Cahoose, Southern Dakelh Nation Alliance.
“Moose are integral to our people — we have relied on our moose for generations. When our moose suffer, our people suffer. We are pleased to work with our neighbours on this vital issue. This isn’t about boundaries. This is about preserving and revitalizing a species that is crucial to all of our communities.”

Tsilhqot’in National Government tribal chairman chief Joe Alphonse said they are conducting a review of their legal options and looking at a possible legal challenge against the provincial decision to continue the LEH hunt.
“In the end, it’s going to be the nation picking up the pieces from the fallout of B.C.’s mismanagement of moose,” Alphonse said. “We welcome all other First Nations to join us in this effort.”

Interesting comments given that moose showed up in the area in the 1900's. Also note the signs throughout Williams Lake asking people (re natives) to please respect cow moose and not shoot them. Yet they will be "picking up the pieces".

Legal challenge - those words will stop everyone else from hunting moose. Sad, I can see moose hunting being put to an end in BC the same way the grizzly hunts have been put to an end. Sad times, I was supposed to go hunting with the GF's Opa this year but our dog needed surgery. I wonder if there will even be a hunt next year we can do together....

We all have our thoughts on this, but we are all very impulse driven. The farmers will appreciate this. For years educated people have been warning us about global warming etc and we chose to turn a blind eye. Now, a whole lot of rivers that used to be are now dried up, lakes are low, and drinking water is very scarce all over the world. I quit hunting and now enjoy sport shooting to support our rights. Some may argue that water is abundant because the melting glacier has the lake at record highs. Once that glacier is gone that lake won't be as high as it is now. Research it, you'd be surprised to see RBC etc wanting Canadians to invest into fresh water. It's a reality, so is our wildlife we need to save for our grandchildren to enjoy. Just my opinion. Everyone has one.

So you're saying the solution is to put all hunters on the tag system and have a fair and equal draw process for hunting opportunity.

^^^^smoke another one brah.

This is about outing whiteys right to hunt with a thin veiled excuse of low numbers, low numbers the FN caused.

They found their wedge and are driving it in.

Let's not forgot these are their ideologies imposed, not crown law. These are a threat, not legal standings

So they poached way too much and now its harder for them to poach because there is less animals so "non-native" shouldn't be allowed to hunt anymore...

That's about it, yes. Plus they will get away with it because of all the 'Reconciliation' going on.

I'm trying not to get infractions. My thoughts mirror yours and my post was tongue in cheek lol.

This won't end well for settlers.

These native bands chose to ignore the NATIONWIDE LAWS OF HUNTING & CONSERVATION FOR CANADIANS.

The years of native POACHING, and the continued DISREGARD FOR THE AGE/###/QUANTITY of animals harvested have now produced a low moose population.

And the native band’s proposed solution is to exclude those of us who do participate in conservation from hunting any moose??? What an extremely ignorant proposal. Not only is this approach Illogical, but it is downright rude.

I purchase licenses and tags. I contribute to the conservation efforts that keep these animals around. I have respect for the age & ### of the animals I harvest. I have respect for the bag limits and regulations determined by the biological studies (that my conservation dollars pay for). Therefore, I will be participating in the moose hunt this year, thank you very much.

so is this official? or just what they are saying should happen?

You'll have to check up on the Tsilhqot'in Interim Moose Protection Law. At the rate we are going they will be making the law for much more than this.

AFN candidates tell Yukon First Nations to 'exert your sovereignty'

"Exert your own laws, exert your own sovereignty and nationhood," said incumbent Grand Chief Perry Bellegarde, running for re-election.
"I've always said, if you don't want federal law, or territorial law, or provincial law to apply, you occupy the field and create your own laws — based on your own jurisdiction, sovereignty and nationhood."

How do you like that?

God-damned right! I will too.

When they start following our hunting laws and getting tags like the rest of us then ill give a #### what they have to say. Until then they can get bent.
