Nat'l Ord. 03A3

I had one in the seventies and replaced all the sheet metal bits with 1903 milled ones. It was a good shooter and I regretted trading it off.
A few years back, I picked one up in beater grade. I've upgraded the metal pieces and found a used C stock for it, so she might be more presentable for '27.
People have poo-poo'd them over the years, saying their receivers are frail. However, Brophy has tested several and pronounced them safe.
I won't be hot rodding mine with my modest cast bullet loads. Their receiver markings are totally without class.

03A3 parts used to be cheap. I remember bolts @$1.99, 2 groove barrels @$2.95. Nat'l Ord. had receivers cast and assembled rifles using surplus parts. I believe they also made up M-1 rifles with welded demil receivers with 03A3 barrels adapted.
Parker Hale Midland rifles used cast receivers with 03A3 bolts. And, of course, Ruger has cast untold thousands of centerfire rifle receivers.

There are lots of warnings about these, specifically the cast receivers which were made to unknown standards. I believe the ones marked "Santa Fe" came from the same maker. I bought one and used it as a parts source. The receiver is in my safe awaiting a smack with a 2 pound hammer.
