Hello, I disabled the pistol for the first time it's been disassemble in 35-40 years. I discovered what I believe might be a chunk missing from it's slide. Any advice? It's a family heirloom and a fully matching nazi marked hi power.

That should not be a cause of any problems. The front end of the recoil spring fits in there.
I own a WW2 FN Browning HP / P640(B) also and it is also missing a little piece in the same area.
Never effected the function of it.

Be gentle if you shoot her - the Belgians weren't particularly fond of the German occupation forces and some guns may not have the correct (or any) heat treat, making the metal prone to unpredictable cracking.
