NBWF,the voice of New Brunswick's hunters, anglers and trappers, has launched a campaign to legalise Sunday hunting.NBDNR is seriously considering this proposal and have provided a website for all concerned to voice their opinion on the subject.Address and phone# are optional, not "required fields",therefore anyone, including non-res hunters can show their support. In fact,I beleive positive input from non-resident hunters would be beneficial to our cause, with comments such as"I would favorably consider NB as a hunting destination if Sunday hunting were allowed"etc.etc. as we all know that politicians love to hear the sound of tourism dollars jingling. If you would like to show your support and help out the average Joe working man in NB that at present is oftentimes limited to hunting on Saturdays only, help provide more opportunities for non-residents planning a trip to NB,and not least of all, provide more opportunity for the youth and future of our favorite pastime to get involved, here is the link

link forwarded far and wide BTT for exposure

Thanks for forwarding the link DD!!I've been doing the same, spreading the word on every board I visit. If we can flood the DNR with positive feedback I think we have a great chance at getting this passed. The entire process is in it's info gathering infancy. The next step will be DNR will make a reccomendation with the results of this survey being a substantial factor. With any luck,we might be hunting on Sundays next fall?:)

I support the idea and have voted accordingly. However I am unsure it will pass. While the notion of prohibiting hunting on the Sabbath is a bit antiquated in our modern world, the majority of people are non-hunters, and they like to have a day where they can enjoy the outdoors without hunters banging away. There are others who believe the game needs a day of rest. I don't share these beliefs, and most people on this site likely don't either, but I do believe that the many non-hunting people do feel this way.

Let me restate that I SUPPORT the idea. However we as hunters have to understand that others don't necessarily share our views. Insensitivity to the concerns of the non-hunting majority is just going to further provoke negative perceptions of hunters in the eyes of non-hunters. If the government won't allow full-blown sunday hunting, then what about allowing bow hunting only on Sunday as a trial measure? That would make hunting activities on Sunday more low key than full-blown rifle hunting, and perhaps a bit more palatable to non-hunters. Again, I am NOT in favour of watering down the proposal, but getting some sort of access to hunting on Sunday would be better than a flat-out rejection of the idea.

I think that it's also worth pointing out that every time we don that vest and hat and pick up our gun or bow and head out, we are ambassadors for our sport, good or bad. Ultimately in the court of public opinion, we will be judged by our conduct. We already have enough problems with a few "bad apples" hurting our image. If we are going to win on issues like this, we really have to hunt safely and ethically, which I'm sure that the majority of people on this site already do, but I feel it can't be restated enough.

Let's hope we are hunting on Sunday next fall.

I'll voice my support. Just curious if this/ or something similar has ever been tried in NS? I live in Ottawa now, but am back in NS for a couple weeks to hunt with my dad. So far, no luck. Does, but no bucks, and that's all I can legally shoot since I don't have a doe tag. I wouldn't mind having those few extra Sundays myself. Has anyone thought of voicing similar concern in NS? If not, who would one contact to get the ball rolling down this way?
Thanks,
Matt

Very well said Shepody,I agree 100% with your post. However,in rebuttal to those that will claim they need Sundays to peacefully and safely stroll through the woods eating granola and those that beleive the game animals need a day of rest,I would point out that at present in Canada only NB,NS,PEI and SK have no Sunday hunting whatsoever. All other provinces and territories allow it in some form, whether all-out rifle hunting, archery only,or fly-in only.In the USA,I beleive 39 of 50 states have Sunday hunting? To me at least, this suggests that Sunday hunters can and do indeed co-exist peacefully with other non-consumptive users of the resource.

As a minimum,I'd agree that bow hunting only could be permitted on Sunday,in fact,I can't even imagine a valid argument opposing it?Reallistically, this could actually instigate further positive changes in NB,as it is likely that if this were the case many more hunters would get involved in bowhunting, thus giving NB bowhunters a stronger voice at the provincial level and the potential to push for even more bowhunting opportunities in NB?For example,a moose archery season to compliment our current 3 day lottery moose hunt,a second or even third deer tag for archers and perhaps a late season archery hunt after the general firearms Whitetail season.Currently there is a very small percentage of hunters in NB that bowhunt which makes it very difficult to push for any special concessions for the bowhunting community.

Thanks again to all those that have shown support, and remember that any victory for NB hunters should be seen as a victory for hunters everywhere. If we get this passed,Novies,Islanders, and Flatlanders could argue to their respective governments that they are amongst the last 3 holdouts in Canada.Let's keep this snowball rolling!!!
